GM event Idea-EPIC BATTLES!

I played eqlive for a long time, started up shortly before kunark. One thing I always missed is that I never got to participate in an real thought out GM events. The few I was ever on the sidelines for were just "Catch the Gnome!! Ohh the gnomes dead, event over!". I always thought GM events should be huge and catch the entire servers attention. My Idea was to have epic battles, Like a serverwide message could spam every 15 minutes or so like "Something is stirring in the centaur hills" "An army of orcs is assembling in the Everfrost!" For like 6 hours before the event, so people assemble and know where to go. Im talking like 50-100 Npcs of all different level ranges coming in waves by level, that way it would be like a true battle and the players would have to use tactics or else be slaughtered. You could even throw some "Officer" Mobs that drop decent loot as well, and a 60+ General Mob, that spawns witha few bodyguards once his army of low to mid level is defeated. I dunno jsut an idea of an event I would of always liked to see.

While nice, it's very very hard to control 50-100 mobs, and the times we do end up making "epic" events involving a bunch of mobs, the players almost always die. =\

I remember the last (and by that I probably do mean last) dragon/giant event I ran. It ended up with the mob AEs slaughtering everyone, NPCs aggroing each other and all sorts of shit, heh.

I liked the way the mass events were handled. Y'know. With massive NPC assistance.

You wouldn't really need a GM event for those things they could be scripted, but I imagine it would be a lot of work.. But I'd love to see a lot more scripted events on WR, random NPCs walking around, maybe little events like a rogue appears at the jewlery vendor in SNP and she shouts STOP THIEF and the rogue tries to run out but gets killed by the guards (or if a player kills him they could return 'a bag of gems' to the mechant for a reward) and stuff like that..

Having scripted Gnoll attacks every few days on SNP would be a laugh too

Edit: It just occured to me I have like a million ideas for little town goings on, would WR staff be interested in a writer for little atmosphere events similar to the quest designers?

Yes, yes I have a lot of little ideas in my head about little events like that happening, and who says small... enourmous would be a thing to satisfy many people. . . aye? In fact...maybe we can get together and think of some ideas. My question is with Kjia and Maimai, GM's looking for ideas for quests that might interest you?

I was thinking of a raid NPC...maybe of the gnomes...I guess all the dark elves go in a battle against the gnomes in the middle of Greenmist Jungle...like the gnome leader tells you in his home town.."Leave town before I call [backup] on you. [Backup] So you want to fight? And then all of a sudden 6 gnomes pop around you evenly spaced and then the raid (you have to be in a raid because your fighting gnomes) gets transported to the middle of Greenmist while you attack the gnomes. And then the little newbies look in awe and see Gnomes against bizarre races! Bwuahah, ok I was kidding about this thing but that might be the millionth thing on my mind... =) Send me a tell in game or send me a PM! =)

i liked those events for cleansing faydark. Where we had to fight up the tower in Faentarc woods and then take the zoneline there to faydark to fight nightmares and stuff there.
