Gamma problems with xp, eqw and two instances of EQ

Hi, I couldn't find this info on the forums so here's my question:

My typical setup is two client windows each working windowed with eqw. The problem is that the EQ gamma settings affect my desktop as well. So that when I'm playing my desktop is a 'bleeched white' kind of color which makes reading text very difficult etc. I use xp for reading maps and forums while I'm playing, and the gamma setting makes this difficult. Is there a way to have the gamma setting only effect the windowed(I.e. EQ) display?

Another side effect of this problem is that if I close both of the eqw windows the gamma effect remains on my desktop. The only way I've found to remove this gamma effect is to reboot, which is also a pain.

I've spoken to at least 6 people on /ooc and /guild over the last few days who experience the same problem, but noone seems to have a fix. Does anyone know how to resolve this problem?

If not, is there a possibility of Wiz changing the codebase so that we can use a later version of eqw which does not have this difficulty?

Thanks in advance,

-Alicia

I just deal with the issue. I have seen mentioned that some use Adobe Gamma to control gamma settings but I would think it may have similar effects.

Thankfully, I have a second machine that i switch over to research on :)

Well I can't figure out how to let other people download it, so contact me on AIM and I'll send you the file.

Re: Gamma problems with xp, eqw and two instances of Game

Since this problem is still around and the newer post with the file no longer works I thought I'd post and say you can still get this file from the original website.Simply go to http://gorgetrapper.htmlplanet.com/ and click on the file from there, doesn't work when linked from another page.

It works and was a big help for me, I no longer have to reboot my computer to get rid of the washed out look. :toot:
