Gaming PC

would be nice to know what the "best" computer would be, that runs for SoD. ya know, best single core processor so no graphic errors, best vid card that doesnt warp models, etc.

Actually...yeah...that would be some nice info if anyone cares to share their experiences/knowledge. I need to do some minor upgrading and this info would be great to build an SOD only computer.

From what I heard Nvidia for gfx card is the way to go, maybe up to series 7, no sli. No dual core processor, some badass P4 should be perfect ; no Vista.

as long as your not in first person view I get no graphic glitches even with the newest nvidea graph card in SLI and a quad core processor

I just built my daughter a box out of stuff I had laying around, runs SOD really well. AMD Athlon XP 3200, ATI X800 Pro, 1 gig of RAM, WinXP. Runs great, chews through the game no probs.

If you are talking about building something NEW, however, you can do so for less than $500 if you value shop. I just built myself a new box no too long ago (3-4 months). AMD 5000+ BE, ATI 3870, MSI mobo, 4 GB RAM. Admittedly, I already had a case, HDD, Optical drives, monitor, and peripherals. But still, all those new parts are < $100 US save for the Video card, which is now ~ $120 US.

As far as the graphical errors, there are several threads that deal with those problems on this forum. Search for "dual core fix" and you should have everything you need. Even for 1st person view.

I <3 First Person Mode. So thats why im wondering about best single core processor and video card.
No Vista = given :p

i got a dual core processor and such on my laptop. so i know how to fix everything, but just being able to load up the game, all new models, high detail settings, and not set the affinity or worry about graphics would be great. atm my laptop plays with low settings (just because i dont care really) and all old models.
just the option to have all that on would be nice.

I use quite an old machine that I bought from my work for $50. and its a business model HP dx2200. THe only thing i did was up the mem and hard drive and it runs SoD smoothly with 2 clients with new models and all bell and whisltes.

However my new machine doesnt run SoD as smooth as this but then again I never searched the forum to read on how to make vista and quad cores and all that work well. No need when the older one can run it just fine and dandy.

With that said i did a quick ebay search and saw my old machine for sale for $75 on there. Basically I am just given you a machine that i use which you can look up HP home page and see the stats on the machine.

Plus a gig of memory stick for the machine is a mere $25 and can then buy a 400w power supply $25 and then a new vid card for all under $200.

Just a thought as there are many ways to go to get a good SoD running machine. My machine ran SoD fine with just 256 memory but I couldnt use all the models and mip mapping and such. For $50 i spent on mem and power supply is a much better machine that can handle anything you want in this game.

Pretty much everything is not too hard to optimize for SoD besides the graphics tearing of some NVidea cards. I went for two radeons in crossfire with a quad core CPU and it runs awesome besides no target rings.

if you really must go nvidia go with an 8600 gt. Doesn't have nearly the tearing problems of the 8800. Still gets a bit, but definitely super-playable.

Hey, I run a 8800GT and I don't have any errors aside from the first person thing. but as far as I understand it, thats a processor thing, not a graphic card thing.

That's actually the graphic card thing. Processor thing is warping, etc.
