Game won't start...

I hadn't tried to log in in a few months, but time constraints have been relaxed a bit. I tried to login today, but ran into a hitch. So I downloaded the files manually and dropped them into my SoD folder, hoping my patcher was just out of date.

Let me list the sequence of events:

I run the patcher
I click on "Patch and Run"
It goes through the patch sequence and opens the EWQ window
I click on "Start EQ"
A new EQW opens, but only the window borders and titlebar show. The entirety of inside the window borders is empty/transparent. I see my wallpaper through the window where I would ordinarily see the EQ splash screen.

I've redownloaded, repatched, and even recreated the whole SoD folder from original game CD's and souped it up with the SoD files, still the same thing happens.

Any suggestions?

TIA for the help.

With EQW disabled, I click on the SoD patcher, get an almost unnoticable flicker on the screen, and the process ends without error.

You had the game working, and suddenly it doesn't work, even though you haven't changed the files at all?

Try running the game outside the patcher. Or if that fails, reinstall and patch entirely to EQLive, which I couldn't quite figure out if you had already done?

In your months absence, did you or anyone else patch and play live? I know that seriously borks the folder and you have to do a complete download (in options of the SoD patch screen) in order to fix.

I figured it out. Somehow, the file attributes on eqgame.exe had changed to read-only. This meant that it couldn't be patched over with the newer version.

Why would it need to, if you hadn't changed anything in your directory at all? We've been using the same EQGame.exe for the past 2,5 year.
