game locking up

every time i:


1) cast a spell or song
2) open my inventore or close it
3) open a bag
4) switch out wepons or instrument
5) takes me forever to zone!!

no matter what i do i just keep locking up.

i've got EQPlayNice... ive bound to 1 processor.... i've done everything i can think of to fix it but i just keep having the same issue!!

i quit 1-2 years ago and just came back about 2 or 3 weeks ago and i never had these issues in the past but now i am...

i dont care what the suggestion is... state it please...
im trying everything i can think of....

ps: this makes kiting IMPOSSIBLE!!
 
It could be almost anything but here are a bunch of suggestions, any of these may solve it:


1) Check that you have some free space on your main hard disk. Windows likes to use a few gigabytes of empty diskspace to 'do stuff' while it's running games. If your disk ends up too full, it can cause issues.

2) Check that your video and sound card both have up to date drivers.

3) Try playing the game in a kind of "safe mode". You can do this by closing everything you have running in the background. So close your browser, itunes, bit torrent, and virus checker software, defrag, or anything that is running in the background. You do this just to test and you can start it all again after you have tested by just rebooting. If the game works well after doing that, then you know it's one of those things causing the problem. Then you just need to narrow down the specific one by trial and error.

4) You can try re-installing the game. I don't usually like bothering to do this unless it's a last resort tho.

5) Press CTRL-ALT-DELETE and look at your Task Manager. When the game is running, look to see how much memory and CPU it is using.

6) Download something from the internet called "CoreTemp". You can run this and it will tell you how hot your CPU is. Sometimes a fan can die in your PC without you knowing and then your CPU can overheat. When a modern CPU overheats, rather than just blowing up, they usually just slow themselves down (a lot). So that could be an issue.

7) Do the same above but for your graphics card. Let me know what make of graphics card you have and if the previous steps haven't solved the problem, I can find the name of something to check your graphics card's temperature. Like the CPU, the graphics card fan can sometimes die and cause problems.

Update:

We just chatted in game and he tried all this to no avail. He also plays other games like WoW on the PC without any troubles. I'm pretty much out of ideas. Can anyone else think of anything?
 
Update on Symptoms:


1) as i run, it pulses... it runs really really slow like i dont have a sow on... then it speeds up and its rinses and repeats.

sow or no sow, it does this...


slow mo running then speeds up then back to slow mo
 
are you using the same computer you were using years ago when the game worked just fine?

what is the video card in the current (and possibly same!) computer?

do you have any antivirus/firewall software running (if yes, what?)

are you playing with or without EQW?

(the answers to these questions might not all be helpful but they should be asked/answered in this situation)

1) I was using the same computer yes.

2) 8600M GS Nvidia video card

3) yes, it's off. (Vipre Antivirus)

4) i have not tried to play in EQW (have not clicked the box in patcher)

the only thing changed since i've last played was the hard drive...
