Well, before I start I'd like to say hello, and that this seems like a very nice community, and that I look forward to playing on your server if I can get everything up and running.

Anyway, my problem starts when I try to log in, where as soon as I press connect I get taken all the way back to my desktop, whether my Log in was correct or not (I tried putting gibberish in, to test it.) I've read the directions, and reread them, and from what I can tell I've followed them to the letter.

Installed The game, with the Titanium Edition Expansion Pack
Deposited map pack into map folder
Ran the patcher, directed it to my folder, and unchecked EQW

After my first failure, I read the instructions again, and found out that I had forgotten to install that Windows Net application, so I got that, but it didn't make a difference. I've also tried manually patching, rebooting several times, turning off all firewalls and backround processes, all to no avail. I looked over the stickies, and FAQ's, but from what I could tell none of them answered my questions. I have seen some posts with similar problems, but they were either unanswered, or their solutions didn't apply to me. I'd really like to get this running, so if anyone can lend a hand I'd be really grateful.

Thanks.

Yea Im having the same problem. I get to log in and hit enter and crashes to Desktop. Help would be nice. Ty

I was searching the forums again, and I found this.

"Question
Crashing to desktop after entering Station Name and Password
Answer
This can often happen if you are unable to connect to the login server due to a firewall or improperly setup network. Please make sure you have the appropriate ports, all UDP ports greater then 1023, open on your firewall if this is the case.

One other quick thing to try would be to delete the file ss.opt out of your the Game directory. If this file gets corrupted it could cause these symptoms as well.

This can also happen if you burn Game files on to a CD-ROM and copy them into an the Game directory. This will cause the files to become Read-Only as they are saved to the hard drive. If you have Windows 9x/ME you will need to set the file attributes to archive. If you have Win2k/XP make sure that READ ONLY is UNCHECKED in the properties of the files. After changing the file attributes you will need to repatch, and then you should be able to login."

I hope it helps some of you, but none of those solutions did anything for me.

Well, since I don't have an ss.opt file, and none of the files in my directory are read-only, I can only assume it's a problem with the ports. I don't know a whole lot about networking, so would anyone mind taking a look at this and telling me if I've done it right or not?

What EQLive's support page said is correct. Try disabling all firewalls both software and in your router. Set it to DMZ, or plug it directly into your modem (make sure it doesn't have a firewall either).
