Foraging and losing things...

Hiya.

I'm not sure why this happens, but I want to suggest it stops = (

Lots of times when I forage something to eat, the things i was "eating" is removed. I get that "throw away" message. Why would I want to throw food away when I am LOOKING FOR MORE FOOD?

This isn't as bad though as whenever I try to move food or drink around my inventory I always lose some of it due to the "throwing away" thing. It doesn't matter if the items are in a bag and I move the whole bag or are on their own. I *think* it even happens sometimes when I just pick the item up and want to put it in my bank... it eats something / throws it away = (

This is especially bad for drinks, because with forage I hardly get any drink VS getting like 8 different foods. So when I lose drink to this it's especailly bad, imo.

Anyway, my suggestion is for this not to happen = )

Drink (Pod of Water) forage rate should be upped.

The 'throwing stuff away' is a separate issue, and really bugs me when I can be arsed to forage - but it's there for a reason, and a pretty important one - forum search will help you find the threads it's discussed in (and give you tips on how to avoid the problem to some extent).

yeah, as phlit said, it's not gunna go away. and neither is the item going immediately into your first available item spot going to change. they put that in for not even Sihala knows what reason, but when me and a dozen other druids piped up to complain about that they basically laughed at us.

I've recently stopped foraging all together. There is really no advantage to it. You forage about 7 different kinds of food, plus water. So it takes a whole bag devoted to food to cover all the junk you scrounge up, and as stated before, water is rather scarce and I frequently find myself running low. Forage used to have it's up side because people would buy various foraged items, but the market has really collapsed for it.
I find it better to just spend the less than 2p for 3 stacks of food and water and forget about foraging. Then, use the hotkey space for something more useful

Thanks for the replies guys... at least I'm not the only one and going crazy here.

But it sounds like everyone has just given up on foraging being the way it is? Well I wouldn't just stop using the skill, I mean if it exists it should be useful, otherwise... why exist?

I assume the "throwing away" thing is there so people don't move around stacks of +attribute food and drinks to rotate them out before getting consumed, therefore only ever having to theoretically buy one to get the effects FOREVA. I know that used to happen a lot on Live.

But maybe there are some other options? Maybe the stat-less food could be immune from the "throwing away" problem? And/or perhaps once you start consuming something it is "locked in" until gone, no matter where you move it? Any other suggestions to possibly help?

foraging is only good for a few things. In certain zones you can forage items that are used in tradeskills - and people buy berries. Berries are the only non zone specific foragable item that didn't get put on a regular vendor for people to buy. Otherwise it's only good for finding your food, which as was stated already, you're better off just buying that.

So you too have just basically agreed with the others that the skill is useless.

Well if the skill is useless, imo it should either be useful or removed. I tried suggesting ways for it to be more useful (or at least not self-sabotaging my own efforts to collect my own stores of food and drink by using it). Everyone else has pretty much just repeated "the skill is useless" in several different ways. Which really doesn't help suggest ways to make it NOT useless.

I can only assume then those would be measures of support for removing it. Which, I guess I'd have to suggest too then. I mean, this is supposed to be a "suggestions and requests" board, not an "I-think-this-skil- is-useless,-but-I-have-no-constructive-feedback-otherwise-nor-any-real-desire-to-see-it-change" board.

Not to be a jerk, but... pretty much.

Anyway, the smallest change and the biggest benefit I agree would be to up the ratio of drink forages to food forages. Otherwise... well I guess I'll just join the ranks of the apathetic.

all i did was tell you what it was currently useful for. if you're a brewer, it's very useful you can forage lots of brewing components in various zones.

OK. Let's start fresh.

I would like to suggest some changes to Foraging. I believe these are in order of difficulty to implement, and are also in order of what I feel would be most helpful.

Suggestion 1: I would like to see the ratio of drinks to food increase, so more drinks are found than are currently found.

Suggestion 2: I would like to see food or drink NOT get automatically thrown away whenever something new is foraged.

Suggestion 3: I would like to see (only) non-stat food and drink somehow be changed to not get consumed when food and drink is moved around in inventory, in the bank, or picked up on the mouse cursor.

Please only respond if you agree or disagree with any of these suggestions and include why, or if you have a counter-suggestion / proposal or question related to these suggestions. I have no further questions, and seek no further comment outside these suggestions outlined above so as to try to keep things neat, organized, and on-track.

Thank you.

agreed.

this is a wiz fix from people munching food that isn't in their top inventory slot. so, for example, if you have +stat food in your top slot, and you click some food further down, you delete 1 of the food from your top slot. Looks like from suggestion #3 that you already understand this, but Wiz thought this was a pretty important change, so i doubt he'll be changing anytime soon. i thought i'd fight with him on it, and he called me out and pwnt me. If you keep whatever you're eating in your top available inventory slot, it shouldn't dissapear when you find new food. its annoying to have to organize yoru bags that way, but its your best choice atm.

lmao - nice try to keep a thread on your topic but really i'm more tempted to spam it then if you'd not tried to be so controling.

so did you go look for the thread where these issues were addressed?

qqqqquote ccccombo breaker

ratio of drink to food is definitely kinda off. I raaaarely end up foraging drink on imeriaz, and I have her forage bound to turnkeys.

Hmm, i also just stopped using forage. Its completely useless mostly, i am past the point where i needed foraged items for my brewing anyway now. Not to mention that using around 8 inventory slots for all the different kinds of food is just rediculous, these days i just keep a stack of rations and a stack of waters around and thats it.

I'm with the crowd here. Usually don't use forage at all, and if I do, I'm low on drinks. Needless to say I never find drinks then :toot:

Making rarer, formerlly foraged goods vendor sold was the step that made it useless. I personally don't care though. allways hated it.
