Well, seeings as this is a forum for ideas, with WR, the server seems to be so roleplay centric, there needs to be a way to capitalize on this. I mean its silly to have lightys hate evils and vice versa , if there is no way to back it up.

First suggestion, is to make a PVP zone, the arena has been done to death, and gets pretty boring. And since roleplay is such a big factor, I think that the pvp should reflect that.

Im thinking , taking a city type zone, with tons of locations to move around, get lost, hide in ect. make it completely pvp from the moment a player enters it. And beyond that there should be a reason WHY people fight, other than just to kill each other. I dont know how feasible this would be , but given EMUs abilitys, it might be doable.

Just as a hypothetical example. lets say tofs as pvp city. populate the zone with only specter type npcs. and set up a basic game of king of the mountain. each floor could be designated to higher level teirs. each floor has various merchants, who sell appropriate level, speciallized gear. bankers on each floor, and make all these npcs have a fixed faction, which is controled by , (similar to guild wars) a floor captain. if a player walks into a floor, that is controlled by an opposing faction(good, evil,) then that player is KoS, until such a time as the their faction group, takes over that floor. have specified quest givers, who give out all/all gear quests, but you can only get info, or do turn ins, if your faction presently has taken over that floor.

Allow players to also assist in protecting their faction control, by when npcs start attacking, assisting them.

If you need a lore type reason to justify, make this city , the city of the dead, each groups dead yearn to walk freely, but cannot do so , till mortals, retake the floor, allowing them to rise again.

once again, this is food for thought. but even varations on this theme would be good, but seriously , there needs to be a way for us to ralley the forces of good against the forces of evil, and vice versa. hell, at this point, id be happy with just a zone wide pvp zone, even if it was a small one, like nexus.

This server is only going to be as good as 2 things, its stability, and its unique content. which that was my understanding thats what this server was trying to so, was throw the old EQ book out the window. but as it is, its still too familiar and set like EQ right now. Maybe, if there was people willing to act as content writers, who submit content, to wiz and staff for approval, and best things get enacted onto the server. /shrug i just want to see this server be the best that EMU has to offer, which with how its set up, and the work the staff is wanting to put into this, it can easily do.

maybe a "submit content" forum/thread might help with this. but once again, these are ideas. Im a firm beliver, that its one thing to complain how things arent right, but its a more effective thing, to offer ideas how it can be made better. Id just like to help in this process. :)
 
I dont think thats such a bad idea, although the point of WR isnt good vs. evil. It is more or less the opposing forces of the world, be that good and evil, or even inner fighting of alignments such as ogres and trolls (setting aside their rivalry assuming it exists in the world of Dalaya as it does in Norrath), making an uneasy alliance to defeat the ultimate evil/destructive force (Kaezul). Now, I'm sure thats what it is, unless I've been lied to by all the GMs including Wizzy himself. But thats a pretty neat idea, although it would need some tweaking. :)
 
Yea, as it was stated, the ultimate "evil" is Kaezul, and since everyone is threatened there would be a common enemy. Of course not everyone would or even should be able to put down all their past discrepensies and join up together and sing "we are the world". Its a good idea, but I think evil should be more aligned with those who serve Kaezul etc. With open ended roleplaying Paladins could actually be evil (if their god is evil since paladins are only holy warriors) or shadowknights could fight for the cause of good for a while, if it provides an end to their own means. I would hate the server to be set that if you start in erudin then you are ultimately a good character, or if you start in thurg your ultimately evil, it hampers the roleplaying experience. I think that good/evil should be more individualized maybe by guilds or just individual characters. you could have guilds that fight each other, and mercenaries who would join a certain guild for a price, since they would not want to be tied down to a guild indefinately.

Just some added thought on your proposal.
 
A pvp zone has never made any sense to me.

Personally, I'd like to see us be able to take a stance in the Kaezul vs. The Rest war and let PvP go from there. Or maybe make it dragons-giants or something.

PvP has never encouraged roleplay as much as it has encouraged griefing.
 
Good stuff, My thoughts were a little incoherent last night, and thus might have came across a little fuzzy.

As for PvP, I think thats why a zone wide pvp area is the best bet, simply because if someone enters such an area, they pretty well know that it is a possiblity, hence eliminating , to some extent , possiblity of greifing. Couldnt hurt to add an NPC at the entrance of a zone, warning people of the war that goes on inside this area.

I played on Live on rallos zek for a very long time, and i hated it so much.
But it wasnt ness. because it was PvP, its cause there was no point to it. I mean it was so stupid to see hi elves killing other hi elves, simply cause it was a pvp server.

The coolest thing i thought , was i remember seeing Dark elves rallying other noob DEs in nek woods to attack any and all lightys who entered the forest, and push them back out.

PvP can be a blast , if its done right. But it really needs to be team oriented for that. Its still just an idea, implentation is still a little fuzzy, but having it open ended, leads for more room for improvment.

This suggestion souns very similar to a zone in Dark Age of Camelot. If anyone has played it, the zone Darkness Falls was put in about 8 months after the games release and basically what it does is it conects all three realms but only the realm that owns the most keeps can enter it. Inside the zone is a uber mob with good loot, uber armor and weapon merchants that can only be used if you collect items from within the zone, as well as a great place to level up. This zone is also a pvp zone (if you log out there you can log back in regardless of which faction owns the zone) so the force that dominates the zone can run through and wipe out the other realms.

Judgung from my experience a zone like this in EQ would totally rock, but it would need to be as central as it possible could be, in order to encourage people from each side to go there, and it would also need to have some attractive feature to it such as great exp or loot or uber quests or the like.

I played on Tallon-Zek which was the PvP teams ( I cant remember, Im bad with names ) But anyway... Tallon-Zek was a lot of fun, I loved it there. I was thinking maybe do it the same way, I know it's not supposed to be Light vs Dark, but maybe we could do like a "Guild PvP" Where different guilds are alligned to either Kaezul or the ... Good god.

The only problem is that... How would we do that?

Anyway it's just a thought, I still think that adding some sort of PvP part to WR would be awsome. Cause' then it would give me a reason to say things like;

What? A.F.K. Doesn't mean, "A free kill?"

And;

... Thats all I have ;(

Well, the point of the story is that I'm not a good greifer ...

But I am all for PvP! Go PvP!

I'm sure there is a guild war system that is already implemented in the game, where you can declare war on one another. Another thing I learned is that when quests become more frequent and important there will be "quest zones" Not sure if this a flag set on the zone during a quest or how it will work, but mainly it will be, from what i was told by Wiz, that you can PvP people in the zone. So if a group of people is attacking a "god" that you worship for scenario's sake, then you can attack them, or try to defend said diety. This I feel is a really good idea, and provides for a much more realistic roleplaying setting during quests.

Just a side note Jes, read up on the diety post on the WR discussion forum. I don't think there is 1 good god, other than the "ultimate force" although I would think thats more of a neutral existance than anything else. but your meaning was taken. One nice thing about the diety system thats setup already is that good/evil on the known gods can be open for pretty much any interpretation except for a few extinuating circumstances, such as Sivyana. Although to some people she is considered holy/rightous/whathaveyou.

Just can't to see some of the storyline quests to begin popping up
