Focus Effects

Emerica

Dalayan Elder
Taken from the wiki:
"Bards are 60% of every class. They can do just about everything at a reduced level in comparsion to the parent class of the ability, such as (but not limited to) Mesmerize, Enduring Breath, Levitate, Haste, Clarity, Invisibility, Snare, Direct Damage, Damage over Time, Direct Damage Area of Effects and plenty of others. They are the kings of movement, with thier Selo's line of spells (Bringing them to the Cap of Movement Speed), as well as the kings of stackable buffs. Thier songs stack with near everything else in the game, such as Damage Enhancement Focus Effects, to the Breeze / Regeneration line of spells with thier group Regens. "

My question is if they are 60% of every class, why do worn focus effects on spells thats require mana, not work? I feel like Im getting ripped off.
I know someone might bring up instrument mods, however, those dont actually add any cool focus effects like csi/mana con/things that matter since our class is very mana dependant these days, to any of our spells which would be very useful considering the huge mana cost on them. These questions are important to me.

*If you want alternatives to the few focus effects that seem worthwhile could be:
60% of a focus, I can use on 10% of my spells, that cost alot% of my mana(Obviously only a few foci would be beneficial, so this doesnt say give them all of them, because for example, a wind mod, is doing more than a di mod would for us).
** If the thing above isnt your style:
Allow the use of things that matter, IE mana conservation, casting speed, Range inc, etc. to scale and add some kind of perk with higher instrument mods.

Thanks

you kind of answered your own question with the instrument mod thing, bards are balanced around that and they are a very competitive class at every tier

Wiki pages aren't official commentary from the devs. Class descriptions on the community wiki generally written by players, so get off of the hang up on the 60% thing. Perhaps the page needs an update, preferably by someone who actively plays the class at high-end. No, worn effects (including focus effects) in general don't effect songs. Songs behave differently from spells in several ways and this is one of them. But hey, focus effects do effect procs. And bards <3 procs.

Nice thats good to know, I didnt realize that. It was hard to see how that was factored in watching the parser etc. Thanks for that Rari, answers my questions a little better.

Sorry. Thanks for the contribution to this thread. It was very positive.

Perhaps you need to stop making posts that sounds like this : "hey I think bards should be buffed because I think they should and it would be fun"

Also, realizing that you made this post without even knowing that Damage Increment increased proc damage makes this post go from sad to almost comical.

Yeah sorry dude. Im trying. I do feel like there is something lacking with this class since Ive been back playing, granted its not much.
I was looking at more of a broad stance with bards and focus effects. This one wasnt really because I wanted something fun though. It doesnt really make much sense to me that some of the bigger line of spells, brusco's mainly, cant get the gains from some of those foci. The % of the spells im talking about too would literally be 2 lines, the dd, and the ae version of it. Its not something that effects everything this class does.
There isnt alot of available information regarding procs+foci (not necessairly your DI comment, that ones fairly obvious to see I was assuming rari was talking more on the lines of csi etc) so Im not sure how the playerbase would just know this stuff.

what exactly do you think youre missing? bards are a massive dps boost to a group - fiery is still insane, buffing a groups dps by like 30%. mots is still somewhere between "amazing" and "required." bards are solid offtanks, they can mez, they can ae slow, they are one of the best burst dps classes, especially under 10%. they can give 5 overcap FT.

your personal dps is probably pretty low compared to your guildmates, but that's a gear/tome thing. Reehs for example does competitive dps, 700-1000ish while providing amazing group support. I dont think bards are the godmode class they used to be, but they are still very good, and scale nicely unlike say... beastlords, or wizards.

i am just happy the elemental focus tomes effect bard things.

also i am happy when i turn into a dragon.

eisley, lets turn into dragons together.

when you are a dragon nothing else matters.

bango you can join us maybe if plaps doesn't come that dude is a buzz kill.

realtalkedit: bards dont need anything except maybe that party bard instrument only thing zaela mentioned like a few months ago which sounded cool. that probably flamed out though.
