I think you need 200 in fishing, need to be in an ocean zone, and have alot of patience to get a map from fishing.

I found an excellent spot in stinger's bog with a static froglok fisher spawn
he always drops a stack of bait and a fishing pole, and his spawn time is about as much time as it takes to go through a stack of bait. I got to 175 fishing near him and i plan to get to 200 today, I'll try to write up a Wiki guide for fishing when i get more research on the maps and fish types. But I still havent seen any new fish since the large fishes i found.
Zones Fished:
Stinger's bog, SNP, Sea of Swords, Spirit Valley(congrats Wpus on killing cryospex), Wyvernfang...now that i think about it i havent fished in all that many zones

I paid the insane amount of plat to buy skill points up to 150 in fishing.. then spent countless hours fishing in Stormsea, at least 10 hours with 200 fishing and no maps yet, just a lot of wasted time. I don't really think the maps are worth the time it takes after the nerf, so I wouldn't get too excited about working on fishing, unfortunetly. Unless I just had 10+ hours of bad luck on random days.

Got to 200 fishing, took a long ass time started at 50 and did the rest with a pole and bait. got my first map in storm sea after about 3 poles and a stack of bait, was for lake starfall, found it started digging and got my ass kicked by malignant skeletons. not sure im ready for...digging.

Treasure maps are for groups, or at the bare minimum a well equipped duo (naturally, depending on the difficulty)

Cast identify on the map, and it will tell you the difficult. A very easy and you're most likely going to be able to duo it if you're a very good duo. I had a moderate map and it was spawning level 57 -58 mobs, three at a time, for five waves. That was pretty difficult. I highly suggest a group for any treasure hunt, even the easiest, as you wont' always have a need for the loot that drops, but someone else may.

*UPDATE*
tried again with the map in Lake starfall, had a druid with me so i had sow.
e pulled the 2 skellies away while i dug some more got a Chasm ghoul to spawn, he was red got away with him on my tail, so i ran him off swung back and got back to digging...that was a mistake, 2 "huge earth elemental"s, a chasm ghoul and 4 malignant skellies spawned and made me into goo. so did some more planning got invis/undead and normal invis on me looked in the mass and saw a human in the group named "a treasure box" but as soon as i got near him he despawned and my map got ganked. I guess I'll wait a little longer to try that again. Before i lost the map i got a chance to identify it, it said it was very easy. It was not very easy to a 42 Wizard and 37 Druid. Hope this forum has helped someone, you guys have helped me. Thanks.

Treasure maps are for level 50+ players, and generally geared at groups. For a map, it's very easy. :p

You need to kill all the mobs before you have a shot at opening the chest. You'll also need a Rogue with Lockpick (for the rogues that don't know when opening chests you need to use your pick pocket skill although your chance of opening it is based off of your pick lock), or someone with a good Bash. Bash, however, is very unreliable and you risk more waves of mobs coming after you. The harder the map, the higher the lock pick you'll need and the less chance you'll have of bashing it open. I wouldn't even bother trying bash on Moderate maps or harder. The chest has a despawn timer of 30 minutes.
