First time playing EQ and new!

Hi everyone, im new to EQ completely, I dont have the means of playing retail and cant really afford it anyway. I wanted to try out EQ because I heard it was like one of the best MMO's around back in the day.

So, if anyone could give me tips or something that would be great!

In this game you can dual box, mean you can play 2 characters at same time. Which at starting will help, altho if you're not familiar to the game, which buttons to press, where to go, etc, might confuse you a bit.

There are 4 main types of classes in this game:
Tanks, Healers, Melee dps and Casters dps.

I would tell you to start with a tank or melee dps, just to get the hang of it.

A few commands you gonna use a bit.
/ooc (out of character) - this way you can talk to everyone world-wide in game - usefull for finding groups.
/tell name (just put the player name, and you can talk to him)
 
Thanks, knowing me i'll start out as the hardest class because I learn better when I have a challenge :p

I'm a fast learner so that's not a big problem, im familiar with MMO's as well so I should be able to catch on quickly.

PS. Is the healer class able to cast beneficial spells (AKA buffs)?

PSS. Is it possible to join up with a guild when I get on? might be useful to have in game help as well.

Yes, healers can cast buffs. Try searching for duo combos in the forum, to learn a bit of 2 boxing and each class.

Shamans have really nice buffs (stats, haste and hp/ac), they the lowest on heals, but they can also do some nice damage with dots (damage over time), they can debuff and slow the enemy, can root them.

Clerics are the best healers, they get the best hp/ac buff in game.

Druid are good in heals and have quite a bit of nukes and dots also. They can teletransport the group and himself to another locations (really helpfull) their buff is not so good.

My personal opinion is to duo ranger and shaman, but go read the wiki and learn a bit of every class and find one you like the most.

Afaik as you finish the dream quest (just a small tutorial zone) you join Dalayas Beginners (or something like that) which is a guild that can help you alot. Just use /gu HI, to talk in it

It is still one of the best games. And SOD just improved upon the orig. So welcome and enjoy.

Bring friends and learn to two box. You don't have to 2 box...but it is fun!
