First Character suggestions

I played on live years ago, ironically enough stopping around the time that Gates of Discord was out. I am excited to get started on SoD, but am really having a hard time determining which character I should start. As far as MMO's are concerned I am a self proclaimed "alt-aholic" and would like to avoid simply starting all 3 and making slow progress with all, I would prefer to have just one main that I can get up and then begin working on some twinks. I also would not like to box. So now after a nice wall of text I get the questions: Bard, Beastlord, or Necro for my first toon? Any suggestions are welcome! I played all three on live and my concern is more around how the gameplay or enjoyment of these classes has changed on SoD.

Thanks in advance

If you are interested in making alts... start with a druid. They making leveling alts a complete breeze. Of the 3 that you listed a necro would solo the best if that is what you are looking for. Any of the 3 are good in groups though, but I stand by my suggestion of making a druid.

Hell, 2 box druid/bst or druid/necro and you'll kill 2 birds with one stone.

Starting fresh i'd go with a necro. Even with low aa and bad gear, it's easy as shit to farm with them at 65 for some pretty decent drops. Not to mention, I find necro's incredibly fun (they are no longer mana batteries!)

Well out of the 3 I'd suggest beastlord. This way if you get bored with the class later, you still have a spiritual bliss/vigor bot for your other toons. Bard or necro would be a better permanent character choice though.

Though really if you're planning a bunch of twinks (I myself always have several projects in the works, shaman and druid alts, and an enchanter in the works) I would suggest going with buffing characters. This way, regardless of whatever you happen to want to play at the time, the other characters are still useful. To that end, druid, cleric, shaman, enchanter are good bets for alts, and a mained healer is a great idea. You won't regret going with one, they tend to get geared out just after a main tank in priority, and there are many spots on raids, which are extremely cramped due to raids being limited to 18 characters, and generally having 5 slots devoted to healers. They also are assured a slot in 6 man content, which tend to be be fairly limited in class composition. For these, cleric or shaman are the most popular. Though if you go with a bard, you are pretty much always assured a slot in these.

Also going with a healer first not only would ensure use in terms of buffs, but also in duoing with any other character you eventually choose.

Druid is really nice for buffs, ports, heals and DS. And it's actually fun to play, so you could keep it forever, even after you make another class. That is what I started with, and never regretted it. It does not take long to get a druid to 50, and then you have your very own port ho, and hopefully farmed some cash to jumpstart your main. I would go bard, BTW.

You should box!

Bard + BST would be pretty cool !

Or BST + Necro even... Hell i'd try that.

bst+necro could be ok-ish. But you're really going to cramp the duo stuff you can do later I think, if you're intending on not switching things up. Also, controlling two pets well, while controlling your characters well, is a gigantic pain in the ass if you're just alt-tabbing.

tbh, druid would be a good 1st toon so you have a port bot for later main quest runs, or a mage if you would want to play one, so you always have a summon bot, mage summons make future alts super sexy w/ things like haste items, staff of the magi, searfires, etc

both are good solo toons (not as good as necro, but not bad at all) and will always be useful no matter what alts you make, and will make future alt shennanigans easier

You would think, but really they don't add all that much. Since the market is balls out cheap for anything nowadays, and int and wis generally still are adding mana on twinks, so 2 items end up being better. Searfires are nice though. The weapons are really easy to beat as well. Best ring haste is also 25%, which can be had pretty cheaply on other slots. The best twink item you can summon is actually the food and water. None of the made food and water generally even comes close (and even the ones that come closest cost a truly ridiculous amount for what they do, I'm looking at you mango juice).

If you're looking to help your alts out with a main there are several much much better choices than mages.

If you are lookign to do mostly grouping, any of those three toons would work.
If you are looking to solo:
Bard is crazy silly easy to level up solo. If you get dizzy easy, or suffer car sickness, soloing that toon would be bad.
Necro is also pretty simple to level up solo. Make toon, ding level 65.
Bst is fairly easy to solo also, but is more gear dependent than the other 2 combined.
