Finding Lasanth the Alchemist

Hi awesome Devs,

Yet here is another request. I been over 5 weeks trying to complete shield of Freeport quest for 2 characters and have hit that roadblock. Lasanth is perma farmed because of his Vah quest. So this guy has more than 1 quest meaning that tons of other people are getting butt-facked when they want to finish their other quests. My suggestion is simple and hope it takes care of that since 5+ weeks is way too long to finish a 50ish quest, and I have two of them. Make two Lasanth the Alchemists mobs, one that is on a 2-3 day timer that people can do for the regular quest and make a "*" version of lasanth the alchemist every 5 days who can be triggered by Vah questers every 5 days.

Please hear my cry, I want to complete the darn quests already :(

not to come off rude but of course everyone wants **** versions for every single step of the vah. My memory is taking me back to a time where people were complaining in OOC about how Parcelen doesn't have a star version but the previous step for mielech did, the response from slaar went something like If you didn't have to wait for things sometimes this wouldn't be everquest.

There's a fundamental problem with overlapping quest items in that it discourages on tier people to take part of content in a big way. There are multiple threads about poopsocking vah quest items, I was burned out and took a break for a few months because of frank camping the mobs for cash items despite people needing the quest and being KS'd - that's the game, but your situation is even worse.

When I was in a casual progression guild Fidelis et Verus that would raid once or twice a week on weekends, and the server was more active, while breaking into the planes we would often be confronted with empty on teir planes, because of ringers back gearing for relics, quest items like vah etc. "So what do we do now?", "Well I guess we can raid Halls of Misery again" o_O This was happening to the youth of the server, people that like to casually log on to advanced characters with their pals. Needlessly to say this was a poor way of retaining people.

Fixing the overlap issue with a *version would go along way in helping people experience more content. Casual toons are faced with 2 options 1) get burned out if you don't have the time or resources to poopsosck a spawn/timer - or once upon a time when the server was more active, actually raiding content. 2) Skip the content altogether, because why not content like the Shield of Freeport will be trivialized in short order (maybe not very soon b/c of the foci) if you can get into a raiding guild. Neither seems to be a scenario staff desire. More needs to be said about increasing mid tier -T10 content and the divide that exists for the more casual crowd but that should take part in a separate discussion.

just move the shield of freeport piece to a different mob, or make the shield of freeport piece droppable. You could just move it to a random drop off trash in the zone without fucking up whatever lore reason lasanth having the piece is

I had these same questions with the sword of suffering quest and 1 (actually 2) of the 4 options for the Enthann aug. There are a surprisingly large amount of quests that overlap on the Vah and as mind-numbingly stupid as that sounds it is the way they want it. Apparently making a t1-t3 quest inaccessible to on-tier people because "Lol, we put cash drops on it!" creates challenge. Challenge = Frustration. This would make a lot more sense if the Vah was less contested in itself, or perhaps not loaded with bottle necks, super rare drops, etc. Having the Vah overlap on notably lower level quests doesn't make those lower level quests more contested, people just don't do them. As I said in those other posts: A truly challenging quest creates a sensation of satisfaction when it is completed. A lot of these quests only generate a sensation of relief that its over. As a quest junkie I do them anyway but a level of bitter resentment begins to fester.

I've never liked how the Vah was handled. It's kind of a neat quest and the lore is nice if you're into that but there's a line between 'you missed the spawn, wait 6 or so hours and try again' and 'hope you have friends doing the vah so you can take turns tracking 5-7 day spawns or sharing spreadsheets'. I wouldn't have gotten anywhere near done with the vah if it weren't for being in school/funemployed when I decided to do it. I would be perfectly okay with quest versions of most of the mobs but the devs haven't been too keen on that idea in the past.

Or do what Tev suggested since one could argue that there's no strict lore reason for that part to come off him. It's a book, not like a piece of flesh or something of that sort. Make it a guaranteed drop off him, slightly rare off named and decently rare off deeper lasanth stuff. So it can still be tedious if that's needed but not a nasty roadblock for people who would actually find the shield useful outside of their 55 adept alt or crappy twink.

I Iike that idea, how about disciples drop other non Vah related quest pieces rarely that Alchemist will normally drop?
