Faction Standings

Ok, here is something that has eluded me since the beginning, and once again I could use some clarification. Please?

See, here's the problem...Now that I have reached a new tier (personally) of levels, I find myself in new zones and I have no idea which mobs I should kill and which I shouldn't, based on their faction. Here it is I'm killing Waywardens in FW, only to find out it affects dragon faction. And, I have no way of knowing if sometime soon, or later, I will need a good faction standing with dragons for some reason (be it quest items, or kos, or whatever). And being that WR is custom, faction guides from eqlive might not be too helpful, and possibly even more misleading.

Now I know this is a tall order, but could someone please take the time to list the major Factions present on WR?

You don't have to list all the mobs that affect each faction, as it is most likely too tedious. I guess I can find out which mobs affect which factions on my own.

I would very much like to know which factions I shouldn't screw up early on, and why. (Say if a particular bad faction standing might keep me from getting a certain quest item later on, or something of that nature). And, which ones I can burn bridges with...

I don't even know how many, or what the faction standings are (i.e. dubious, indifferent, etc). And, what they really mean/keep you from doing...

I don't know... :?
I'm lost...

Please Help,

As far as I know, there's two faction stands in the high end of the game, that are important (to some players).
Dragons and Giants.
Giants hate dragons, and the other way around. You can either be on dragon faction or giant faction, since killing one, will make you ally to the other. Once you're ally, you can get either dragon or giant armor (as far as I know, it's the same stats), most of it is a pain to get, compared to what you get, so not a lot of people get it (at least the people I play with feel this way). Of course, if you're not in a raiding guild, ToV armor could be a way to get your gear upgraded, but in a raiding guild, you kinda screw up both factions. That's about it I think.

Giants - Killing giants will decrease Stormhammer (giant) faction and Shadow Dwarf faction, but will raise Ring of Scale ("dragon") faction. Giants and dwarves are actually allies on Winter's Roar, despite differences in size.

Dragons - The dragons are allied with the drakes, wyvern, wyms and fae (faeries). That means that killing these (though there are a few exceptions), will lower you faction with the Ring of Scale, but raise your faction with Stormhammer and Shadow Dwarves.

In a storyline context, the Giants are very much against Kaezul's rule. One of Kaezul's higher ranking minions made an attack on Stormkeep not so long ago, Rymaz himself having to push back the invading forces before they could completely wipe out the Giants. On the other hand, the Dragons seemed to like Keazul. They were over-joyed to hear of the attack on the Giants, and shortly afterwards met with an emissary of Kaezul's... though we didn't over-hear what they spoke about. The Dragons sounded almost ready to ally themselves with the tyrant, saying that he did not pose them any threat, and that they had exchanged emissaries before.

But, as Homogenn said, the main attraction to raising a faction from a player perspective is that when you get high enough on one side, you're able to start doing the armor quests. Contrary to what Homogenn says, though, they are well worth doing (speaking as a ranger myself). I'm still wearing three or four pieces of Draconic Armor (Tunic, Legs, Sleeves, Mask) as I haven't found (or been awarded) an upgrade for any of these slots. The armor quests are well worth doing no matter if you plan on soloing for an hour a day or joining a raiding guild.

Aside from the armors, there are a number of quests in each faction that usually result in good rewards, not to mention NPCs that provide a little background information and history on Dalaya, if you take the time to speak to them.

If you do plan on joining a raiding guild, however, you should know that both factions are usually viable targets, and both are hit fairly regularly because they drop some nice loot. If you plan on joining one of these guilds, my suggestion would be to make it known to them that you plan on keeping a certain faction, or do all the quests and speak to all the NPCs before joining the guild.

Wow..Hey, thanks guys :D

Yea, I've really wanted that draconic armor ever since I saw it on some chars in the wanelo. Ok, great..kill more giants.

Ummm, yea, I figured about raids messing up factions. And I do want to join a guild in the near future, I guess I have about 18 more lvls before I even hit the lvl requirement anyway.. Maybe I can get the armor by lvl 50, if not then I hope whichever guild accepts me as a member is cool and can understand how badly I want to earn that armor. However, I would feel bad even asking not to participate in a raid because of my faction. But, that's me. Only time will tell...I'll just have to try my best and see.

Thx again for all your help,

On the other hand, it's fairly nice, and with the improved quests coming, it should be useful for raiding guilds as well.

If you are a dark race, with the addition of dwarf faction. I suggest you be careful. Giants giving negative faction could end up to you becoming KOS to the dwarves of thrugadin. This means you will either have to get your faction up with erudin or start making trips to Tmal, the frog city on the moon for your supplies of gems, bank etc. Bank being the exception since there is one in the bizarre. However since the only vendor in bizarre sells charms, you have no way of buying other items.

Ive been killing Giants in GD for a while, and I have not noticed the drop in Thurg faction, as I am still quite high on their friendly list (kindly/amiably last time i looked).

Or kill ALOT in Warrens so he can go to "goodie" city.

Once you get past threatening from killing these, give all the paws that you store up (over the time from getting past threateningly) to sgt. gunnar and that should boost your faction with the good city a ton, lowering only that with the kobolds (who hate everyone anyway).

Nope, I am a goodie race..From Erudin. So, my standing with Thurgadin is what it should be. My standing with Erudin couldn't possibly get any better; I own the Symbol of Erudin Bracers. For now, if I do need to use the merchants or bank in Thurgadin I simply cast Camo when in GD, and then enter Thur and use the merchants..

Seem to be getting mixed responses about Draconic armor..But, I feel it would be good for me to obtain it anyway. Besides, I could gain a sense of completion; I like quests. :D

Thx All,
