Experience rate

Hail and well met everyone, I'm still installing/patching, but my question was this: I read that the experience is not easier to acquire but leveling is not harder than it was in the live servers of said original company.

I'm not looking for a handout, instant level, type of stuff here but was looking on a bit more clarification as to what was meant by:

"Faster experience gain compared to the popular commercial online game. Not necessarily easier, but faster."

Thanks for any assistance you can provide!

I feel that's probably referring to the fact that there are quite a few +% ZEM (zone experience modifier) areas, world events that give global +% exp for a time, you get +50% exp per kill for each person in your party beyond the second... this means that 2 people get 50% of the exp from the kill (adding up to 100%), 3 get 50% each (hence 150%) up to 6 people, where you each member gets 50% of the exp for the kill, as if there had only been 2 in the group... but things die faster.

So that means that, in a good group, you can steamroll mobs and get a great exp split out of it... making the leveling 'faster'. However, there are many areas on SoD that have multi-pulls through most of the zone, lots of wanderers, lots of aggro mobs... There seem to be some zones that absolute precision pulling is required and some of the limits on numbers of players allowed in (6-man zones, or the 18-man raid zones, etc) make it such that you must form your group well, and each player must know what they're doing.

This is all from someone who is a relatively low level, but from having been around the forums for... almost 2 years maybe (or however long) it's what I've gathered.

First thing I would advise is going to the 2nd post in SoD Disucssion, labeled "Update on SoD related websites - Must have list". This is a compilation of links with tons of info. Another spot to look is Tome of Knowledge, which is it's own area of locked threads that have a ton of great info (everything from haste, bard instrument modifiers, how attacking is figured and so much more).

XP wise, get a group of 6 anytime possible and rip through a dungeon zone (they normally have the best XP modifiiers).

Few notable differences from live that bear mentioning: Cha helps your nukes and mezzes not be resisted, Dexterity plays a role in hit accuracy, Transportation from most cities to other cities is possible via the Mansion of Portals (Dont dally though, it is not a safe place), past level 10 there is an XP modifier for "new" zones that you havent hunted in alot (from +25%, +10, 0, -10, -25) that resets at levels 30,50,65.

Biggest bit of advice is read everything, ask your questions in Dalaya's Beginners first (that is why it is there and people hate excessive /ooc questions it seems), find a nice person who has been around who you can ask questions of on a semi regular basis too (lots of us will help anytime we can).

Welcome to Shards of Dalaya!

Don't forget the death penalty, here you do not lose exp when you die but only gain a small debt that needs to be paid off. This results in faster gain over time than live especially if you die a lot like me :psyduck:

Thanks everyone. I havent been able to get in game yet, but I have been reading endlessly on the differences and the changes that SoD has made. I am very impressed and look forward to many nights exploring and drinking ale with many of you.

Live and here does not translate well.

It is best to thinking of it as a completely new experience using the same art, and most of the same spell names. However, while they share a name, they may not do the same thing. It's hard, wandering through familiar halls, that nothing is as you recall it.

In reality... it is the game that E Q 2 should have been.
