Etiquette question: loot rules

Hi everybody,

Well, finally created my first character yesterday at around 1am... ugh... should have gone to bed instead...

But anyway, it's good to be there. After having a level 54 Ranger on live, it's weird to start with no forage and an itty-bity-tiny track range, but it'll get better.

I haven't started to hunt, much less to group, just now. But I was wondering what loot rules are considered the norm on this server. Alpha-loot? Main looter + roll for special drops? Main looter + rotation for special drops? FFA?

Thanks!

I think it's usually different per group but I think a lot of people are helpful and friendly and would do NBG (need before greed) such that if a nice silk piece drops, and there are 2 casters, but one already has a good piece in that slot, and the other has nothing, the latter person usually gets it. In the case that they both needed it, I think it's usually accepted to roll for it.

As far as general trash goes... I usually party with friends, and we do a FFA with the understanding that we help each other out with plat when we need it. When other people are in group, I guess I try to loot about every 6th mob or so, unless no one else is looting... some people are twinks and don't care about the low-level drops, etc...

I dunno, I wish I could say that it was a 'rule' to exercise common courtesy, but that really just isn't the case. I guess it depends upon who you group with; some players here I've heard would basically attempt to train the group and FD after killing a big target just to get the loot themself (not that I've heard of that happening, just that general attitude... funny enough, from someone who HAS FD).

most of the time what seems to happen in random pickup groups is that half the group will be too lazy to loot anything, and then bitch and complain that they havn't gotten any cash drops.. sad but true

hotkey

/hidecorpse all

works wonders and has been one of the first hotkeys I make on all toons since it was put in the game.

I prefer to have a master looter. Most of the time it's just Trellie and I and our bots, so it's not an issue. But when we do group with others, I try to push for master looting. It's just the most fair.

Most of the people we've grouped with, though (at least the ones we've liked) already have a higher level character and didn't care about the cash and junk drops. And we usually roll for the better items.

I've never been fond of FFA looting. I usually avoid groups that want to go that way.

Indeed and so I just go ahead and loot if noone else wants any loot.
If anyone is complaining I offer a split or roll on several items, rolls on Gems are naturally done.
If anyone is bitching around in the above mentioned case I would just advise them to loot up. Either they will do or mostly shut up then and everyone is ok with it :)

ML + /split = win.

That's my personal preferrence.

For actually usable items, we do NBG if someone specific needs it or random 1000 if not.

Yeah, this is the way to go. I think/hope/experience most groups doing this (at least, most 65 groups - lower levels tend to be the aforementioned method/s).
