Error! : String Not Found (303)

Dalayan Elder
Yesterday I had to rollback my computer. I restored it to the end of march. Before and after the restore, SoD and EQ files were installed on my computer. However, when I try and patch now, every time EQ starts to open I instantly get a Error! window, and the client crashes.

Any suggestions? Its tied into the roll back somehow. I've double checked the file address and actual location, both seem ok.

I want SoD! =(

Tks for any input

Update

After hitting a few brick walls while trying to repatch both SoD and EQ, I have discovered something else that is odd.

Accessing Add / Remove programs and trying to either remove or simply change EQ Anniversary pack on my comp results in the following error :

Setup.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.
send / don't send report. (standard windows error msg)

With only a limited computer background, Im rather stuck. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

A surefire way of getting onto SoD would to be purchasing the Titanium edition, it works right out of the box as soon as you install the SoD patcher and run it.

Can you repatch all? Are you running the patcher? (sodpatcher.exe)

If it still crashes, try renaming the files.txt and sodfiles.txt in the sod folder.

I have attempted to repatch all, nothing new is found. Renaming the various SoD.txt files causes the patcher to make duplicates, but when it attempts to open the EULA screen, same error message comes up.

I am currently using the anniversary edition, however I have access to a copy of Titanium. Im going to try and uninstall / reinstall EQ using the hard discs, rather than messing with an ugly reinstall while still having a copy of the program on the comp.

All I can seem to surmise is that files have been misplaced somewhere in a directory and the comp isn't finding them. =(

Sorry - bumping this thread for my own selfish reasons! I need to talk myself thru these problems. :)

Any solutions for this?
Repatch All doesn't fix it.

Tried renaming files - it creates duplicate and get the error again.

I am NOT using a copy of titanium. I had my old files on the computer, ran the official patcher and then the SOD patcher.

PS: I have the following expacs (From SOE Station account infoz)
Base Game
Depths of Darkhollow
Dragons of Norrath
Gates of Discord
Legacy of Ykesha
Lost Dungeons of Norrath
Omens of War
Planes of Power
Prophecy of Ro
Ruins of Kunark
Scars of Velious
Secrets of Faydwer
Seeds of Destruction
Shadows of Luclin
The Buried Sea
The Serpents Spine

Soo, I found this quote:
Your missing strings are in there. So deleting them wasnt a good idea. You need those. Historically 303 error means someone has less than the required expansions, as your other thread stated, and, as a search would have told you. So between then and now, you have purchased and installed titanium?

Hopefully this will help peeps in the future!

This game works with up to titanium. I'm not sure but you might have a later client than titanium due to patching through live.

What install cd's are you using?

Try uninstalling and just installing up to and including gates of discord if you have the install cds for titanum and previous.

I'm going to do exactly just that.
I'm downloading a Titanium iso right now, gonna remove my current version as it most likely is a too new version. (I was hoping it would work with the game installed post titanium too - no such luck!)

Thanks for the reply crunchy. =)

Way to admit piracy on a board that specifically states it isnt tolerated.

uhh... does it matter when EQ lets you download the entire game for free anyways?

Hey chuckleberries, as the rules explicitly state, we do not condone downloading the game for free, and do not permit any discussion or linking to any free downloads. If you want to discuss how to attain the game here, then discuss how to pick up a cheap copy of Titanium - it's no more than $10 or so these days, and that's not much for a one-time cost.

This may surprise you, but we do appreciate the efforts of those that coded the clientside software we make use of, and we would like to see it properly paid for since the whole purpose of the "free download" is to pay the kind of monthly cost we do not charge.

That said, we're not going to go on a witchhunt or start asking people for CD keys, but at the very least if you're going to pirate, keep it off our forums.

Apparently not, smart guy.

minus the downloading for free part, you patched to live. That basically breaks it for SoD. It can work if patched to live but you tend to encounter a lot more errors.
Just use the older recomended install disks and your fine.
