Error: string not found (303)

hello-

I followed the fresh install exactly and got error "string not found (303) after hitting the start EQ button after SOD patcher finished. Although, after installing the game, I had no option to cancel the patch, and my screens looked different from the screenshots on the fresh install instructions. Alll I got was a small SOE window that seemed to patch the game. I also had to click okay 3 times before the SOD patcher window came up from the browse a folder window. I also tried it by hitting cancel and it took 3 times before the SOD patcher came up which tells me that it didn't matter if I hit okay or not.

Any fix for this? do I have the wrong version of EQ or something? My box just says everquest II with no other name.

The Game II? Does this mean your using a copy of the sequal rather then the orignal game? If this is true then that is in and of itself your problem. If not then I interpretted that wrong.
 
The box says everquest II. I would think it is the sequel to everyquest? What can I do to get files from EQ I. I thought from what I read, that this is a EQ2 emulator?

No, this is a server for the original game. Back from the golden age when it meant a bit more to be an MMO. You will need to run the patcher from the original game in order to use the SoD patcher.
 
I am currently downloading the trilogy from station.com. This includes the first everquest and a couple expansions. Using this will make it work?

Yes, that is correct.

Refer to This post For exact instruction on how to run SoD. It details in full exactly how to setup your files, as well as what patches need to run. I hope you manage to get everything running properly. With a decent connection it should take no more then an hour or so at most to fully patch up and get into the game.

okay will do. I have downloaded all the proper files to get started, I had the SOD patcher working, everything was good till that string error. Hopefully the earlier version will fix it. I even have the full patch files download that I can just extract into the game directory.

How many people are on this server anyhow?

The whole reason I stopped playing to begin with was because I was a little disappointed with guild overrunning the hunting spots with any kind of special items, and have to as permission to hunt all the time, and dealing with people who didn't what to share basically. I hope it's different here. At least I wont have to pay for it.
