Error 1017

HI I am completley new to SoD and trying to get it setup since last night, here is my problem.

First this is what I have installed: I Had the old EQ trilogy which is what i installed (EQ/Kunark/Velious)
I am Running Windows XP-SP2
(edit): I am also using the generic windows firewall
And here is a description of my error:

I can get to the server selection screen and I click enter world and i get the same error ever time:

Error 1017; Cannot log into everquest server
You may need to rerunt he update patch. Repeatedly seeing this message indicates a loss of connection to the patch server.This is usually temporary.

now steps i have taken to remedy this problem; read through 8 pages of forums to look for other solutions, found a couple where they said completley reinstall etc. I have reinstalled about 3 times, patched another dozen times and repatched full half a dozen times, and of course i am always always using the SoD patcher to log in!

1) You need Titanium to play, as Trilogy does not have enough expansions.
As it shows on this link

Once you have a fresh titanium patched and ready, then post again if the problem persists.
