Error 1001

I've been trying to get a friend play and is a first timer. The game is all set up. When he tries to setup a new account he gets error 1001 server error. So I tried t going to new account and I have the same problem. Has the create a new account been blocked or is it down?

I also have this error. I browsed the thread and there isn't anything that seems like it can fix it.

1001 means your client can't even find the server to connect to it.
