Eq (post install) wont get past initial patch

I have recently got a friend (old skool Eqer :dance to download and install the EQ from the sony website (its like a free trial but uses the full software). After a successful installation he tries to start the application and it opens the small window that patches for a second but it seems to stop and never gets past 50%. This is the way i first installed the game and was able to run it successfully. Has anyone who ran into this have a solution?

Which patcher is it that doesn't work? If it's EQLive's, you should try searching their support forums.
