Enter Key not working in game

Hi, I recently reinstalled Shards on my Acer Aspire 6530 laptop (running Windows Vista 64-bit) and the game loads and runs fine but when I try to type in chat to others, the Enter key doesn't work. It doesn't bring up the chatbar (can type chat to others when I click on the chat bar) or enter the text into chat when I press it afterwards (the chat stays in the "typing" area). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
 
No such luck, tried looking through all of them and reset them to the defaults and still am having the same problem. :(

Oddly, the other guy said that too at first.

However, I'm assuming your enter key works outside of the game and you don't have some other app running that interfaces between the keyboard and the game.

What is your operating system?

You said this is a reinstall? If you're absolutely positive the key mappings are correct, you can try to move the ini file to another directory so that the game recreates it. It's in the ********* directory and called "eqclient.ini"

Not positive if it recreates that or not so don't actually delete it unless you do a full reinstall of the game.

If you move the file and it gets recreated, and the enter key suddenly works, then you do have it mapped wrong in the old file.

Yup, enter key works just fine, I even can use it to enter the login screen, server select, and character select. It's just the chat that it isn't working on.

Tried that, no luck with that either. All the keys are at the defaults, so it "should" be mapped correctly. EQClient.ini is recreated though :(
 
Well, if it's still happening after eqclient.ini got recreated, it means we've eliminated the possibility that it's a key mapping issue inside of EQ.

The fact that the enter key works ok everywhere in eq up until you have loaded the client eliminates the possibility that it's a key mapping issue outside of EQ.

It would be interesting to know if it happens on another computer for that account. It *shouldn't* happen on another computer at your place on that account, but I don't know why it's happening on your current one either.

All I can suggest now is to wipe your EQ directory so nothing is left, and reinstall from scratch.
 
If it comes down to it, and you can't figure it out, press / and see if it will open your chat window. If so, see if your enter will work after you type a message. If so, problem fixed, no need for it to work to initialize the chatting :)

He already explained that he can start typing in the chat window but hitting enter won't submit it.

Good thought though.

Did you clear out the old folders and files first or just install on top of it?

If you did clear it out and it is still happening, I don't know what it could be.
 
Few things you could try:

-Make sure you are running on only 1 core of your... what, AMD Turion X2?
-Try plugging in a good working keyboard, see if it works
-Make sure you don't alt+tab at all when loading into the game. Always have it as your primary selected window from the time you open the game to the time you are in the world. See if works then. If it still doesn't, try alt+tabbing in and out a few times and see if it starts working.
-If i you already were using a seperate keyboard: try the enter key on the laptop with they keyboard still plugged in. If that still doesn't work, try unplugging/unistalling the keyboard, reboot, then press enter on the laptop keyboard.
-Run full screen (if that's even a possibility) w/o eqw.

Also, please tell us if you are using a separate keyboard/keyboard interface software.

Having this issue also something fierce today... enter key works everywhere but in game...even works to enter the world at the char select screen...but once in game nada. i can open text and type just can't use either the enter key near the letters or the one located by the numbers....fact i just noticed an odd tid bit right now, its not working typeing this text, but that may just be the forums format /shrug any reslove on how to fix this? tried loging on and out several times and restarting my computer and all the same..diff keyboard same issue, i've had this issue before but seems to resolve itself at some point, just don't know when / how.
