Enchanter: Dire Charm

I was looking forward to Dire Charm since level 1 but it really failed to live up to expectations, I'd like to propose a change while you're looking at AA's...

Most dungeon exp zones don't have anything good to dire charm in them, since enc's last pet is at 60 and has very low HP it doesn't usually last many fights, I assumed Dire Charm was the dps upgrade to the summoned enc pet but so far aside from in mielc and sirens grotto (which are boring exp zones, for <50aa people) I haven't found a DC pet for a dungeon that isn't some green or low blue gimmick mob that barely hits harder than my pet then bugs the cleric when I die or PL bug.

What i'd really prefer would be for Enchanters Dire Charm to be replaced with a powerful animation summon that hit similarly to a charmed level 48-50 exp mob (and didn't die on the first caster mob that AE's). It would also have the benefit of working with Guarding Animation AA. Dire Charm could then be replaced with a level 65 or Ancient spell that was a ~30 minute charm versus level 50 max mobs.

The "what I'd really prefer" thing seems problematic. That's one of the major issues with live. You want a perma charm mob that is stronger than any summoned pet? You want to be a chanter than can haste your pet, slow the mob and mezz adds without any fear of the charmed mob breaking? Seems pretty much over the top to me. Did I misunderstand you?

Would it be stronger than any summoned pet? Currently my DC pets hit for something like.. 20,40.. 55,20.. 60,30.. 105,30.. 55,20.. 60,30.. etc. with very rare 100+ hits.. because they're too low level to do proper damage.

How does hasting, slowing and mezzing have ANYTHING to do with my request. Haste is not an enc power that people look for, noone invites an enchanter to a group because of haste in the high end, they get perma haste off a buff bot parked in ToV if they need it. Slowing and Mezzing are skills I already have, they shouldn't be interrupted by an AA skill that you work for to improve your character.

The original idea of dire charm is that the charmed mob never breaks, but there's nothing good to charm in any of the zones I want to be hunting in. It's useless currently.

I knew people would reply in shock "OH MY GOD SOMEONE WANTS A 9 AA SKILL TO MAKE THEIR CHARACTER MORE POWERFUL! THEY'RE MAD!", well at the moment it doesn't make enchanters more powerful except for in a handfull of crappy zones, and even then i'm annoyed that it removes the guardian animation skill.

As for nec's and druids.. aren't theirs different spells? affecting only animals and undead, it's even more useless for them anyway.

I remember a time when haste worked on a charmed mob, but it seems to not work anymore. So, now we have an unhasted mob compared to a hasted pet. The difference is not too great. I decided to not even get dire charm since the only pets worth getting were over 50. Dire charm might be good for making the mob tank but I doubt it.

It would be a pleasant surprise if I found out there was something I was doing wrong and haste still works.

I agree with Maimai though, this is why I wont waste 9AA on the ability.

Suggestions:

Dire Charm: Gives a slight 2%, 4%, 7% chance for your charm spells to last for Max Duration+5, 10, 15 minutes (guaranteed) [maxes of course at 23 minutes, get your clocks out ;) ]

Dopplegang: Activated. Instantly summons a clone of the nearest PC (the target will be you if no one else is in the zone). The summoned NPC will fight your target with melee and spells(only those in the PC's linup)

So if you used this and it targeted a necro, you would summon an NPC necro with the spell lineup of the necro you used it on. This is similar to wake the dead for necros on live, except it can't really be targeted... The other alternative would be to make it 'self' only, so you only got a copy of yourself, and this might work better in a RP sense...

Watchful Shadow: Summon's a clone of [target] with similar attack of ancient pet summon, but with more resist and HP. Gains some of the abilities of the target.

So this is a pet summon with a skin that is a super toned down NPC or PC. That means it looks and behaves with some of the abilities of the target, but doesn't get super HP or attack like a DC pet. At least it isn't super dangerous though! So I could maybe use this on myself. Bam, a pet with similar stats to me and the same mana pool and spell lineup. Only of course it is a ghetto NPC with no brains... Likewise I could use it on a healer to get a ghetto healer. It wouldn't be overpowered or should I say that it 'couldn't' be overpowered? Another fun idea would be to use it on a NPC I liked, perhaps a vampire bat type mob so that it would lifetap(just as an example)

Anyways just a bunch of random ideas that sorta fit the class...

Or they could just add a couple low level mobs to charm in some zones. It seems like that might be easier.

edit or lower the cost of dire charm to reflect its function

Or just leave it alone because it isnt the end of the world :)

I'd like to see level 50 mobs in every high end zone too, but leaving it as it is would be a real shame especially since work is going on with other classes AA's at the moment...

I would grab it in an instant if there were the right mobs seeded in zones. Bam, that makes it worth it IMO.
