Duo-Sk-Shaman

Heard about this and got pretty damn excited. Miss the old days:) If I really enjoy it im going become a donar.
So thinking of my duo, always liked the SK and Shaman, DPS can be a problem at times but stacking all there DoT spells can really speed things up. The ability to solo pull, bit of CC with root, fear kiting higher damage mobs, gives you alot of technique for just two classes.

Was wondering are there some big changes with this classes/way the world works I should know about before I create my accounts/characters. Patching EQ now up to LDON and its taking forever ;/.

Also, was wondering If they have made shields somewhat useful in this game, orignal EQ they were basically just there for stats and not much else. That is one thing I did enjoy about WoW was that shields could be useful.
Since I read that freeport/other places are high end dungeons, do some races start together?

Looking at a Human SK/ Barb Shaman to level a bit faster
or a Troll SK/Shaman just because thats my favorite race, loved the old models :)

Also plan to do alot of roleplaying and hoping to run dungeons with other people via roleplay to give them a chance to see what it is like and how much more it can add to the game.

Thanks ahead of time.

Yeah, Wiz needs a new kidney.

What? :brow:

I think you're in the wrong thread.

Anyways a sk/shammy duo is excellant here. Shammy buffs are great for an SK, while the healing is adequate. You can also dot as much as you want, and your SK should always have aggro. Thats a very good combo.

Fear is not that useful in sod nor is snare for the most part. That being said a tank who can hold aggro works well with a shaman, even though shaman slows and heals are not what they are on live.

It doesn't matter how a class is here compared to live, you should know that by now. The slows are more than adequate for the mobs difficulty here. Seriously, people keep comparing SoD to Live and it honestly makes me mad. As for the heals have you NOT noticed how you get less HP here and still seem to survived very easily. Shm heals arent as inadequate as you make them out to be.

hey all i too was thinking of an SK/healer combo... i hadnt thought about shaman untill i read the thread.

Would it be less down time to play a cleric SK combo or would DPS take care of the down time issue in a shaman SK combo

*shrug* in the end it prolly wont matter too much but i was just wondering if i could get some input on this thread, because im not sure i wanna make a new thread with the possibility of getting flamed.

I see so slowing is important here, but how about the str debuffs?

Other options I have always liked is druid, DS/heal/ DoTs nice hp buff + teleports.

Druid or Shaman, what to be.

Well shaman/Tank is very good combination, the slow is a big help and shaman endless mana can shorten down time.
As for druid/Tank as a druid i think it will be more convnient from the utility (ports for example) but slower in leveling since there will be more down time duo to the slower mana regen and more healing needed.
At the higher levels this may be balance by the fact that druids heals are better and tank HP can take adventage of those heals.

And one last thing, as been pointed before the classes here are very difrent then EQLive, make sure you alwyes explore your class and do not make assumptions base on your knowladge from other places, i pay the price of those assumption by neglacting to use my pet since i thought it would be just like the pet on live turn out he can kick ass and i use him alot now.

i was thinking between cleric and druide myself at first... i played a druid on live ... (sorry if that annoys any one to bring it up here) but the heals just wont cut it as far as i know. while shamans have the same heals they also have slow and just as good DOTs as the druid...

Im still between :
pure healing and buffing power of the cleric.
moderate and adiquet healing, DOTs, debuffs, buffs, and slows of the shaman.

more work on the shaman but i think i might just be up for it.

(PS) i installed all the expansions up to PoP and DLed the raming two and it crashes after giving me a warning about seizers... i decided to click ALL the advanced tabs up to and includeing LDON... few more hours but i hope this fixes the problem...
Q: will this fix it or is there an alternative answer ?

Guess im going to do a Troll SK and shaman, regen will cure my down time, but should be able to go faster then human/barb with the regen bonus.

Two pets will be a nice little DPS bonus + around 5 DoTs on a target, the sk can tap back HP if the shaman runs low.

Will post my names if anyone wants to hook up.

Check the tech forum there a guide on how to fix common problems.

Try kiting griffons without snare. Good luck :D

(just an example. I understand, snare isn't meant ro STOP mobs at low HP here, but it's far away from being useless).

My SK and shammy duo was quite effective, when I had time to play. Decent DPS (the shammy pet can actually do a fair amount of damage), slows, buffs, and reasonable heals, while an SK can tap in emergency situations to keep HP up.
I hate to see human SKs though, they drive me nuts. That's just a personal thing though.

Going start playing mine today, few last questions.

Questing, is it worth doing, or will I be able to just grind and get gear almost as good.
Dungeons, Will I be able to two man the low level ones? Which ones are avaible.

Made two trolls, should I expect to watch of for Human and other NPCs?

Thanks ahead of time, hope to be raiding ASAP:)

You won't be KoS anywhere with trolls, and it's a pretty solid race to play the two characters you're playing.

Me personally, I leveled without doing any quests, but that's the kind of player I am. I don't take time to do the finer things in games like quests and such. If the quest makes or breaks the class, at some point I will have to do it, for instance Festering Insects quest spell for Shammy's, although that quest is insanely easy.

So yeah, go knock 'em dead.

As for two boxing dungeons, yeah, you'll be able too for the most part. At least in some of them.

The quest system now provides VERY good exp (along with some cool items...and it is a good idea to have decent newport faction for some of the quests there). I think the exp in general from grinding is slower than it was when I started playing a year ago. So mix it up. Kill for exp and do quests as well. Not only will you get some cool items, money, and exp, but it'll make the game more interesting.

When Ramblo was leveling, there weren't as many quests and they didn't provide nearly the exp that they do now. So for him it was definitely worthwhile to grind through levels. I also think that Crystal Caverns was a favored spot and a very easy exp place back in the day (but it shut down before I ever went). Ramblo posted a topic about leveling some time ago, so perhaps he can tell you more about good places, etc.

Also, know that as a Troll you're going to take the exp penalty, so even though you have regen to speed things along, the exp hit is very noticeable, especially later on. Regen doesn't scale proportionately with exp needed to level.
