druid high end nukes

after a few years and attending to many raids finally my druid got her relic nightfire. Honestly until now I did not payed any attention to it and my question goes as follow: What makes this spell deserve the tittle of relic? it seems to be like another nuke or your arsenal like Flame strike and nothing special about it. lets compare the 2 of them:

Flame strike/Relic:nightfire
target single/single
dmg 1225/dmg 1500
mana cost 365/370
casting delay 5/5.5
resist fire 0/ ice -25

as you can see waiting 3 lvls and many hours of raiding can you understand my disappointment? you get a bit more damage but more mana cost and more delay and you get a ice nuke instead of fire, no biggie, actually should be a regular spell if anything so druids can have a choice when nuking fire/ice creatures, does not need to be a relic. Now IF this was an upgrade to fist of shiritri then will be worth to be called a relic since you are getting tons more AoE damage than since from 935 to 1500 is a significant change specially when AoE.

Dunno, gimme your thoughts here. Thanks

If you think this is a bad relic you need to take a hard look at what enchanters get. You get more damage and a better resist adjust. Not every relic is an amazing power house that shits all over its previous spell.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that this spell is fine. The shaman dot is very, very similar to this with about the same increase in damage. Relics aren't the end all spells in the game; It's just another tier of spells.

Direct damage spells are awful, that is pretty much all you need to know.

Unless you absolutely need to burn down your target as quickly as possible you should pretty much always be using Blizzard on your druid, it is a three tick rain that does 490 base (so if all three hit it is 30 less damage than Nightfire) plus it can hit two targets at once. All for 38 less mana than Nightfire.

+275 base damage for +5 mana and +.5 cast time with a -25 ice resist? This sounds like an improvement to me. I don't understand what you want, but as others have stated, this is just the next level of progression for your spells, not an uber omg i wanna stop healing because i have a badass nuke kind of spell.

Yeah, it's basically Wrath of the Skies damage without the outdoor requirement. You start adding in Damage Increments, Cunning of the Beast,Crits and Tomes, there is a pretty significant difference between Flamestrike and Nightfire.

Faldeney/Kenner
65 Wizard/65 Druid

Exactly...

Having played fully tomed Dr00d, crit nuking for over 6k with all the focus involved is pretty sexy. Very very good relic.

If anything this spell should be removed / changed because it is too overpowered to give druids the kind of dps they can get from this spell at full tomes. Really though, it's a big step up when you count in aa's, di, csi and tomes. As previously mentioned, critting at 6k+ dmg on a healer is pretty neat.

Also, let's compare it to Mage relic: Bladewind

Relic: nightfire
target single
dmg 1500
mana cost 370
casting delay 5.5
resist ice -25

Relic: Bladewind
target single
dmg 1520
mana cost 350
casting delay 5.5
resist magic -25

As you can see, the spells are very similar, although it could be argued that cold is a better resist for a nuke than magic. If you take into account that mage is supposed to be a dps class (druid is a healer), and that this is their best dps spell when they aren't allowed to use rains, we can see that the magician spell needs upgraded or the druid spell needs a nerf.

This is pretty spurious logic that doesn't even touch on druid grouping centering around a healing role which with the atrocious cast time of things like their group heals is going to seriously hinder the damage they can practically hope to dish out with this spell.
