Druid / BL vs Monk / Sham

Let me start out by saying I have no intention to play end game content in this wonderful game.

Now, my goals are to create a duo that's fun, will level quickly well together (ie good DPS and survivability), and be desired in groups if the opportunity ever presents itself.

I've come up with Druid / BL, and Monk / Sham. (Yes, I know Monk / Sham is done to death!). Which would you choose, based on the above goals?

I started playing the game for the exact same reasons as you stated. Just to have fun. I started with a druid and a beastlord and it was a very good choice. I was able to get them both to 65 without any groups and just playing leisurely. The beastlord pet can take down just about anything. When you include ports, track, heals, dots, slows, haste, root, snare, mana regen buffs from both classes, rezes, and a multitude of other things you have a great twosome. I didn't have to worry about gear either till I turned 65.
I have also dabbled with the monk and shaman. The shaman buffs are amazing and with the monk being able to feign death you can go a little further into dungeons and do a few different things.
But, I'll take the beastlord pet over the shaman pet any day. When you add the BL pet to the equation, it's like you are also playing a warrior that has some crazy procs.

Good luck and I hope this helps.

I would go Druid/BL, your buffs/slow wont be quite good, but still there and you will also get some Shaman don't.. While shaman/monk dont have any tracking/porting which is very very helpful for fun/casual play, and the other stuff that Zengo listed. Don't know about at 65, but the Druid pet at 60 can still tank pretty decently with the druid there healing it.

For casual play you can't choose a better class than a druid. Ports, while far from necessary, make the game much more enjoyable from a casual stand point.

looks good to me

Iksar if you care about having a large ac bonus, Ogre if you want to be fat and huge.

Fixed. Ogres are seriously a pain in the ass sizewise. You really don't realize exactly how much until you camp one in the bank, log in, and can't see the banker and/or move.

I use a Dru/Bst. And at the higher end I still do pretty good, if no group is available. But the BST pet has not been able to tank for a long time. Slow is huge aggro and the BST dps is significant and then if you add proc items, it is a lost cause to try to get the pet to tank. I end up tanking on the BST with the pet as an off tank and added dps.

And 50% slow is not bad IMO. Haste is only so-so, but then the pet has a great pet haste and is easily 30% of the dps. Beast Crack does help manna regen enough downtime can be minimized if the Druid does not dps much (except melee.)

Druid Harmony is also handy. It is unresistable in outdoor zones (East Wastes of Tarhyl being a good place to use it). Of course some creatures are just too close, but then you can use root.

I find it a very fun duo. You also can form the core of a group and then add whoever is LFG. I don't know that it is any better than monk/sham, but it is very viable at all levels and is fun.

Small pots until you get the spell is the answer. Also don't try to pull in Kaladim without a small pot. :)
