Ok total newb scenario but i'm in the very beginning of the dream where your character spawns and i've talked to the guide but i can't get past the gate.... please help

Turn around and go the other way.

Turn on the ingame map(default hotkey is backspace) if you're still lost.

see my problem is i'm new to the game completely and i got to the sorcerer only to have not gotten the scroll she said she has giving me i checked the spellbook and my inventory i have no clue where else to look if i could get help on that it would rock

It should have appeared in your inventory, if you followed the dialog. What does she say when you hail her?
