Donations.....

The only thing really in the way of my doing donations is the fact it is via PayPal, whom I do not trust one bit. Is there an alternative method to do this? Even the old thing of mailing a cashiers check would rock.

If you're not confident with giving your card info to paypal, try going to your bank and asking for a one-time credit card (I don't know how it's called).

Basically, it's a compatible credit card with a fixed cash amount. After doing the payment, its card number no longer works.

Oh now that is a good idea! Load a card with X$ and set up donations from that! Good thought, thanks man.

Are you sure about this to work?
I have the problem that I do not have a credit card which I can use with PayPal, I jsut do have a normal card which do not work. And just to get a credit card for donations is to expensive for me so it would be good to know if you can get either such one time credit cards or if there is another possibitlity to donate.

Isn't that called a money order?

No.

Is there any particular reason the donations can't be sent by money order?

I doubt someone wants to have to go cash it and then come home and tally you in for the month.

and you don't trust paypal?..... wow........

I could be wrong, but I swear I remember reading somewhere that it was due to the fact that Wiz is in Europe. As far as the US goes, I'm thinking there are problems with laws regarding money being sent overseas. As far as people in Europe, and especially the country in which Wiz lives (UK or Sweden if I can remember right, don't quote me though), I don't know why money orders, checks, or cash can't be sent.

But Iaeolan's reason seems likely too.

I would have to assume since you can not very likely go to the 7/11 down the street in anytown USA for a money order of 20€, likewise I'm sure any EU nation 'common-town' will have the capability to convert a US money order to euros.

paypal has the luxury of converting these easily, which is one of the reasons why it is a top money transfer service.

and dont trust paypal... not trusting google i could understand... but paypal?... arn't they FDIC insured even?

I do not shop online, check my bank accounts online, nada. It is a simple matter of even the best companies mess up mixed with the fact that no transaction is truly secure. I know, I know, I am overly paranoid but that is just the way I am. I remember when thousands of account info w/ CC was downloaded from Amazon(think it was?) like 5 years ago. The idiots had actually saved all of that info in a simple text file. I can't afford for someone to make a mistake with my funds, so I do not give them a chance too.

The beginning of December will be doing the one time CC though. Absolutely ingenious and secure.

Most companies actually don't get your CC information these days, but rather process it through a professional "gateway" service that does it for them, then reports the validity of the transfer back to them. The information is transferred with 128-bit SSL encryption as well, so unless it's the NSA trying to scoop out your CC info, you're pretty safe from MITM attacks as well.

Five years is a very, very long time on the internet. :)

I assume that there is no other way to donate then PayPal.
Just thinking so because no one has even showed any opportunity to do it in a different way.

You all talked about that it is not that easy to turn $ to € in the US but what is it like to donate from a european country to another via normal banking? Would this be possible?
