Does +dmg add to BS ratio?

Is the DMG mod added into Backstab?

I was always under the impression that the +elemental damage did not add to backstab calculations.

Edit: To clarify, the +1 disease damage wouldnt make the ratio 7/11 for calculating backstab damage.. it would be calculated at 6/11 with a small bonus damage add of like +5 total damage given to the total if it was unresisted.

Why would backstab work differently than any other melee hit using elemental damage? I'd like to see a dev weigh in on this, but I'm fairly certain that if the elemental damage is unresisted the weapon is in fact calculated as 7/11 for the purposes of backstab damage. Otherwise there's no way my rogue would have hit the massive numbers he had pre-backtab change while using Ebb (8/22 +8cold dmg)

If that was the case then Icegouge (15/20 +3damage) would have given people higher back stabs than any other weapon in the game until you could get a blade of the green mist with a base damage of 17 and +1damage add. Tier 11 dagger (mercy) would then just be a offhand weapon.

Now i could be wrong.. but i doubt it. As for the new system they have in place, im not sure with the ratios and how +damage works with them, but like i said before im pretty positive pre-change it did nothing.

It might be the reason the Mercy piercer was favored is that it did not require resist checks for the full 18dmg. Back when I was using Huge Shark Fang (15/25) I exceeded my backstab damage by switching to Ebb (8/22 +8 cold). So pre-change I'm pretty sure it did work like that. I however got rid of Ebb because the elemental damage wasn't reliable. I was doing a lot of Tmaps at the time and the golems etc were shrugging off the hits.

Opps, i think i was under the impression that Mercy was like 17/18 before the ratio change.

I was reasonably convinced the +elemental damage was in fact calculated into the damage ratio of the weapon, *if unresisted*. But now you've made me unsure.

I guess this just reinforces my long-standing policy of not considering elemental damage when I decide whether or not to upgrade my mainhand piercer.

That's also why, at level 55, I'm still running around with a Huge Shark Fang (albeit a Pristine one, 15/23).

I thought it was like 18/21 ... I forget. Anyway, I do think that on raids people were/are hesitant to use weapons that rely too much on elemental damage. I guess we can't know how it works post-change anyway until a dev weighs in. :)

I was using one of those up to 65. :)

Thanks for the replies, everyone.

Hopefully a dev will come by an answer it conclusively.
