Hey,

Does anyone tried to run SoD on Windows vista machine?
I believe the eqlive.exe that sod use is quite old, not sure if it will work with the new OS

Er the .exe used to play SoD isn't named EQlive, it's eqgame.exe

I doubt there will be a problem, If you're unsure ask someone with Project Longhorn to test it(I'm not sure how much was changed), or someone who already has some form of Vista.

There's probably a compatibility option to in Vista to run older programs, like in XP.

I have run SoD in vista (cant remember version #) it worked fine except for me the sound wouldn't work :( ..but that turned out to be a sound blaster driver problem with vista and not the game... other than that i did have the patcher hang one time ..but i just restarted it and it worked great.

i recently tried running it on my vista notebook.

I had to INSTALL the game with the CDs to get it to work. Obviously Vista wont let u run it if you just copy the directory (this is what i used to do to minimize patching time). When i finally had it installed it would only work in EQW Mode. Running it without EQW wouldnt work, and just gave me some "missing DLL" Error messages, before the program terminated.

Worked fine in EQwindows though.

Anyone else tried it out? I would really like to run it in normal mode.. i dont like to play in Window-Mode ;)

Umm, this could be a problem... it would be great if we can copy and paste the directory... I don't fancy the 2 hours patch time..

If you're missing a .dll just google the file, and place it in the system32 folder. Then goto run and type regsvr32 /i <dllname>

That should fix the missing .dll error.

Hopefully it works, compatibility mode most of the time never worked worth a crap for me on various games.

BTW.... i DID copy the directory after installing my EQ/PoP CDs... that way i could run it in windows mode.

I will try the registering DLL thing though ! (next chance i got the time). Ill keep u informed

I have that same problem on notebook with vista. Works allmost fine with EQW but it's a bit laggy. I don't really like to play in Window-mode and I hate lagging.
It gave me error message: Ever Quest : Windows Memory can't be read. 0x000... and something like that and it will shut down SoD when I click OK button on error box.
I found from google how to fix that same problem on Half Life 2 or CS. Have to try if it works on SoD too.

edit: Try running it on Windows XP (SP2). Right click on SoD patcher -> properties and select there compatibility where is run this program on another windows. Click on little box to get select screen workin and select XP then apply and OK. Try running w/o EQW. Works on me well now.

I run SoD on a vista machine. I copied the directory to my external HD and run it off there and have never had a problem.

i Run it on Windows Vista Ultimate x64
Runs absolutely flawlessly! I don't even have to set processor affinity even though i run it on a Q6600 (4 cores, 2.4Ghz)
haven't had any problems yet.
also as a reference.
my laptop runs it perfectly as well (copied directory from big comp) laptop has Windows Vista Home Premium x32
on a Intel Duel core 1.86Ghz (no need to set processor affinity here either)

I'm happy :)

Stationary has a Asus 8800GT Graphics monster
Laptop is running on a ATI X2300 something rather.. (don't really care for ATI much)
