Dodge not skilling up?

I hit level 8 on my ranger (half-elf) today and being the defense minded individual that I am, I quickly ran to my local trainer and threw a point into Dodge to bring it to level 8 (Aweful - but trained). I did not start my log exactly when I dinged 8 but based on the log I have, there should only have been 1, 2 at most, fights before training dodge. Here is a summation of the skill ups I had between when the log started and level 9:

  • Forage: 36-44
    Tracking: 41-45
    Bind Wound: 12-15
    Taunt:39-45
    Offense: 41-45
    Defense: 42-45
    1HS: 43-45
    1HB: 41-45
    Piercing: 26-45
    Archery: 20-23
    Kick: 43-45
    [/list:u]

I do have an edited log and my original that I can post if needed. It just struck me as odd that I didn't have a single skill up in dodge while I had the above skill ups over the same period of time (this was all solo). And there was a little salt on the wound when a gnoll dodged me once ;( . When I /ooc'd it - I don't recall getting any direct replies and I had to log for work. I did also try a quick search of the forums but didn't find anything.

Side note, also noticed that I have bash as a ranger (didn't think they had ability to bash). When I try to bash with out shield - says I needed a shield. With a shield, it has no effect. I didn't try to look into this at all but thought I would mention it (I threw one skill point into bash at level 1 (it was not trained by default at level 1 but I figured I'ld give it a try)). Haven't messed with bash since level 2 i think.

Dodge does skill up but seemed slower than most other skills (probably has less checks on the skill than others). Try using skill points to get it to a slightly higher level, it may be that unlike most other skills you have to actually succeed at a dodge for it to skill up (most likely just a check though!)

I got bash on my ranger too, cant remember the level but its at skill 7, and after I deleted the hotkey I have no way to get it back.

It would be nice but as it wasn't part of the original ranger skill set I am not too bothered about not being able to use it.

I will try throwing some added points into dodge tomorrow when I play to see if that helps any. I remember having a problem with a druid being able to forage some time ago and it took me getting it up to around 40 before it started going up on its own (and actually foraging anything). But I havent had any issues with forage on my ranger.

And on your Bash being at 7 - was that from you investing skill points or did you actually get it to go up? I doubt I would use bash much over kick but may be nice to have (and I thought I saw bash in my attack abilities - maybe not though).

Think I noticed I could get bash at level 7, hence the skill of 7.

I would definitley use bash, more so if bandolier was implemented here, as the ability to interrupt would be handy, as rangers have very limited tools to do this (and none at all until either weapon procs, or inate stun procs).
