Displaying track radius on the map!

I was wondering if it was possible to make ones trackradius (if u have track) visible on the zonemap. Like take the users trackskill and then show on the map up to how far away from the user he/she is actually seeing stuff?

I think this should be a class aa for druid/ranger/bards at say like... 5aa's? I would gladly invest that :D (maybe another aa that makes it zonewide? :p)

Anyway, since the pointer (arrow) that shows where u are and where u are heading on the map is already calculated by the game, how hard can it be to add a little circle to it?:)

That sounds like a client-side modification, which can't happen.
Maybe the drawing comes from the client, i dont know. But if i had to guess i'd say that data like your track skill comes from the server, i can understand that your location in a zone is first and foremost know by the client only. But surely the server also knows where you are and thus it might be possible to do this, i really dont know for the rest.
Maybe Wiz can shed some light on this, I think he can tell us wether this is client side or server side.

I think the real problem here is track getting spammed. I dont know how many times in a raid zone I've been asked for current mobs up, replying with "nothing on track" and finding out we're right next to one. The circle around your character will only be useful if there is a relatively low number of mobs, if not, you're just getting tricked into thinking that everything within that circle is on track, which it most likely isnt. Perhaps the first step to this, if possible, is to increase the max number of mobs available to track so nothing gets spammed out. Maybe replace an AA (foresight for rangers is currently either useless or broken, so I hear. Dont know about druid AA's) to achieve this if its too much to ask otherwise. Again, client/coding/whatever permitting. Just my thoughts on the subject~

Its not hard to do it yourself, take track skill and multiply by 10, zoom on map until its close to that number, viola

It appears that all the map window does is read from those .txt files in the maps directory. The map window is not like the WoW map, it's more passive and simply scrolls depending on your /loc.

Ok then on to the alternative idea:

an AA skill for track enabled classes that allow them to track EVERYthing in the zone so that we dont need to worry about up to how far we can see. :p

I would think that would fit a Ranger more than a Druid.

I would agree with that...But I don't think the AA business is a great idea.

In my opinion it fits a druid just as much as a ranger, it happens often that i go on scouting for the guild to see what is up. It would be far more conveniant if i could just port in, track... and port back out! Instead i have to run around to get in trackrange.

I think he's referring to roleplaying. Rangers are the main trackers and should be the best at it~

Rangers are still better at it, no matter what! You guys skill have a lot more options in track search! Like turning off 'green' cons and stuff. (or isnt that working on SoD? i have no idea actually)

This furthers druids to be able to effortlessly camp a crap ton of named lowbie mobs then quite rapidly. Knowing exactly what is up w/ the push of a button coupled with ports would just be too much imo.

IMO, this "dumbs down" the game which is what SOE is notorious for and hopefully SoD steers away from.
