Disappears Before Char Select

Hello.
I recently did an exact transfer of all of my SoD/EQ files from a Windows Vista system to an older Windows XP system (one I used to play SoD on years ago).
SoD Patcher works fine. I'm able to get passed account log in screen just fine. Select server just fine.
Here's the issue:
After selecting server, it gets to the first loading screen before char select, then the client poofs. What I mean is, I get nothing at all and the game shuts down with no explanation. It just stops loading before I get to the actual char select screen (it stops at "Loading Froglok" (right at the beginning of the loading process)). I had gotten an error message the first couple times this happened, but I don't get anything with the shut down anymore.
I've re-patched all and checked to see if my resolution numbers were set too high for my screen, but it's still "poofing" with no error message.
Also, I saw a post from a little while ago of people running into an issue that sounded the same as this one, but their solution doesn't seem to be working for me (a Dev came by, said he'd look into it, told them later it should be fixed, then they were able to log in).

This seems like it would be a simple fix (I even think I dealt with it years ago), I just don't recall what to do.

Thank you.

How did you copy the files? I know Windows XP was the first personal home computer OS by Windows that included NTFS, which retains ownership information. It's possible that your Win XP system thinks the files the executable is trying to access doesn't belong to the same owner as the executable, but since the executable was developed long before Windows XP came out, it doesn't know how to handle such a weird message from the future and crashes.

If that really is the problem, you can try the steps detailed at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308421. Do this to the folder, and have it apply the change to every subfolder recursively.

I put the files on a flash drive from my Vista computer then put the files on the XP driver from the flash drive.
Okay, I will try what you recommended. Thanks, Nath.

Honestly you'll save yourself a ton of time by just re-installing from titanium and updating with the patcher fresh. These types of issues aren't worth the troubleshooting that would normally go into it.

Re-install!

I went ahead and installed the free EQ client from the Sony website, patched EQ, then downloaded and patched SoD. I'm in, although now a window is popping up when I choose to log into the SoD server saying something about Luclin files not found. I am able to log in fine and I do have Luclin files as far as I know (models work).
Thanks for your time, fellas.
