Difficulty installing EQ on a windows 7 64 bit computer

Ok so I started with installing direct x 9.0 c as I know that is quite necessary for this now I started out trying to use a the eq directory I know works from my personal computer. the program closes with an unexplained error (I think it might be trying to run it 64 bit) I've set the permissions to run as admin and set compatibility back to win 98. Next step is to dig out m cds and try them. Any Suggestions for installing this at all?

i have windows windows 7 64 too, i had no isues after following the guide that rari said to use , i hope you got it to work Grimtides
