Different freezing problem

Hello,
I am now randomly having a problem playing SoD where my entire computer freezes for between 3seconds and a minutes. I already read previous posts on where it was connected to doing something that modified a file on your computer to cause the live protection from various programs to kick in. I am not sure if I should just reinstall (which will take 8+ hrs on cable because the live patcher is so horrible), or if this is fixable? I have never had the problem before, and was playing a good while before it even started happening. It seems qutie random too because I can go days without having the problem. The freezing problem also seem to have a acomplis as somedays the entire screen goes black which I would relate to my video card dieing except for the fact that this only happens once a weekish also. My computer is fine without SoD running, and I have the most recent software and drivers for all my hardware. I am just curious also if anyone else experienced this and fixed it. I'm not computer illiterate, but this is confusing me a lot with the utter randomness of the problem. I am going to try a few more ideas, but feedback would be greaty appreciated! Thanks

(I didn't include any system specs because I think this is either a virus on my end or a corrupted file somewhere)

Update:

I reinstalled EQ all together. I have a dual core processor so I put it on a single one again. I checked for any IRQ problems, and didn't find any. I turned down my graphics settings in the game, I turned off everything in the settings before you log in your account (social animations etc.). I tired using EQ play nice even though my computer can more than handle this game. I Really don't want to have to wipe this computer because this is the least graphic intensive game I play and I have never had any problems.
