Devs: alchemy "fix" for better game consistency?

Hello. If you are a developer then this post may be of interest. Please see http://forum.shardsofdalaya.com/showthread.php?t=20635 for the original alchemy question I posted and my conclusion at the end.

Overview: a combine of 10 individual potions into a 10 Dose Potion constitutes an attempt and possibly a point of experience(?) However, it seems that the experience from a combine for a higher level potion is != that from a 10 dose combine of those same higher level potions. E.g. at level 110, a combine of ingredients to make a 115 results in 1 point of experience, but a 10 dose combine of those 115 potions does not.

I think the game would be more consistent and less confusing if a 10 dose combine of potions above your trivial skill level would always result in a point of experience, and a 10 dose combine of potions at or below your trivial level would not. I.e. the 10 dose combine should use an algorithm similar to that of a normal combine. Or perhaps, if this is due to a fall through condition, 10 dose combines should yield no experience whatsoever.

If this is intentional behavior then please ignore this post with my apologies. If you find this feedback valuable and would like two screen shots demonstrating the behavior, please let me know.

Warmest regards.

I'm not a dev, so you might disregard this, but the following is a popular and generally held belief.

Anyone can pour 10 bottles of something into 1 big bottle of something. Every 10 dose combine is a 0 skill recipe, and as such is unfailable. It's not meant for gaining skills, and shouldn't give you free progression toward your next skill point. It's merely a convenience for the user to conserve inventory space.

This is just me giving you information you might not have, not trying to satisfy you.

Thanks for the information, Tarutao.

I think, then, that there is only one small addition to the game code that would help alleviate the confusing messages: never emit "you can no longer advance your skill" on a 10 dose combine. Since 10 dose combines are 0 skill level and cannot yield an experience point, the message is unnecessary. Its presence, usually hiding amongst a myriad of regular combine messages, can be very confusing. At least I found it so.

This would be a very low priority RFE, obviously.

Thanks for the input. I leave the remainder in the hands of our capable developers. Thread closed.

Cheers. :)
