*~Dev Applications Accepted Within~*

Slaariel

*The Only Real Life Girl Dev*
YOU! KNOW! What is wrong with this server! You have published essays on it! You know that if you just had a chance you could turn it all around... give this place the content it sorely needs! Fix all those weird inconsistencies! Make the raid fight / exp zone / outdoor quest hub that reminds you of the good ol' days of your favorite MMO (maybe even just the good ol' days of SoD).

Well here is your chance! I need some dev team members!

Here is what I want out of you:

-A measure of commitment. It's not a second job but it's definitely work.
-A measure of creativity. We all have ideas, believe me, but we need yours, too.
-A measure of collaboration. Lone wolves just don't get the job done. You need to work w/ people.

Here is what you get in return:

-The ability to make anything in SoD you want. New items, encounters, zones, etc. SPECIFICALLY focused on the second phase of Ikisith, but there is plenty of room for all your ideas.
-Access to the highest levels of communication. If you think something is wrong and you post about it, complain in /guild, etc. that's all fine. But here you are in with the sharks you can make your case personally and hear the REAL reasons why things are the way they are.
-The opportunity to read threads about content YOU have made by people who have done YOUR content! Pretty great if you ask me.
-Much more(????)

Here is what you will send in PM to me:

1: Character names
2: Brief history of your time on SoD
3: Any programming experience (you don't need this but you WILL learn how to do some coding in our super cool scripting language).
4: Short description of the biggest problem / largest void with content on SoD.
5: Long description of how you would fix that problem / fill that void.

Step 5 is the most important. If you don't know how you would fix something IN DETAIL, you got no future.

If you literally can't think of anything wrong that you would love to fix, then just give me a good quest or raid-encounter writeup. And I do mean good writeup not 2 or 3 sentences.

Send in PM to me. No deadline but I'm going to start looking at them over the weekend.

Ask any questions also in this thread if you have them I will happily answer (about deving).

Questions as far as what to expect here:

1)What is quality of the typical dev groupie [1-10]?

2)What is the half-life of your typical dev groupie line?
Example: I flex my dev muscles, and the masses come flocking to my door; I bring in the first 4, and when 5 minutes go by and I'm done with them, how many will be left in line to choose from? Round to the nearest int (after the fact) in the case of amputees and the vertically challenged, theres no need to discriminate.

Sorry if these come off as marza specific questions, but I mean I've seen pics of marza groupies and I uhh... I'll pass.

What if we don't have any specific ideas of what to fix, but want to bring life back into older areas or something? Or just want to fix smaller things that other people haven't had time to? Also, could we work together with another dev and take care of some of the more less-creative work?

Not to talk over Slaar but this is pretty much your chance to shine. If you want to revamp an old area we can not promise you that we will let you go through with the revamp if you are selected - but you sure as hell can dazzle us with your revamping skills to get on the team.

Also I want to add how fucking excited I am that the dev team is being replenished and new kick ass team is being formed. You should all want in on this!

Do you want the name of all my characters? 0.o or.. just the account void is on for instance?

Any you actually play or spent a long time playing, at least. Seeing a name on an app for any staff position and thinking "I recognize that name from helpful comments in DB chat or OOC" is a good thing. ~Tao

I have a lots of custom perl quests I created for a private EQEmu server I own and run that I don't mind handing over. Let me know if these are of interest.

I submitted an app, but since then I've had some ideas actually for some new content that I think would be neat. Should I resubmit if I think it's a better idea/s?

I would love to do something like this. However I do not have the time to dedicate to anything other then ideas.

From the announcement posted that lasts from 12-06-2011 until 12-12-2012 I think they are. I just put my application in 2 days ago. And I would love to put my computer science degree work to use by helping the server.

Slaar had said to me before he has like a month worth of backed up PMs to sift through. Figure he'll get to it eventually

If that's something you somehow are actually capable of doing (and willing to do), then yeah, you should let us know. A couple of things are required for that type of position, though:

(1) A level of trustworthiness that is on the extreme end of extreme... they haven't even let me see things like melee damage calculation formulas, and I've been an Admin for over 2 years.

(2) A deep understanding of the coding of EQEmu and coding in general... interpreting cobbled-together spaghetti code from the mind of Wiz from 2004 and translating that seamlessly into EQEmu-compatible code without interfering with anything else SoD-specific that may be interconnected elsewhere and possibly conflicting with EQEmu is a terrifying idea to be reserved only for experts. If you can do that kind of thing, though, some of us will love you forever.

(3) Patience... a lot of it... especially if the playerbase ever finds out you're working on 3.0. You'll get "are you making progress on 3.0" questions from 50 people all of whom fail to understand how discouraging that is because they each only asked once and don't realize 49 others asked you that this week.

-------------------

All of that said... if you can do that kind of thing, some of us will love you forever. I don't understand how the people that have done any work on it at all have done it.
