so anyone able to tell me away to stop the datarate.txt to stop reseting to 8.0, am on dailup and this can be vary annoying loging in and noticeing fewmins later that your reciveing 90% packetloss. anyways any advice would be apprecated as of now am seting the file to readonly

where are you changing the rate? I have changed mine and it is still the same. You can change it by right clicking on your windows start button and selecting explore. then go to whereever you have your everquest folder and find your datarate file. open that file, edit it to what you want, do not forget to save, and you should be set.
About the datarate value. I know the default is 8. Some people set ridiculous values like 120. Some lower it to 2. I was told that datarate can help with zone times and lag depending on your connection speed. I have nice, stable cable modem.
What would be a reccmmended value to help me shorten zone times, etc...? I tried experimenting a bit but I can't seem to reach a definite conclusion.
Also, EQPlayNice doesn't seem to make that much difference to me, but I keep using it religiously. All my settings are super low, I have upgraded my PC since playing Live with all models on without much trouble, including memory. Unfortunately, SOD seems to run worse.
