Currently wanted classes

Hello, as I mentioned in another post I am going to start playing again after not having played in a long time.

I am interested in playing a class that will make people want me in a group. I know that the "correct" answer is typically enchanter, cleric, or bard, however I also know that depending on the server that may change.

I currently have a level 43 enchanter and a level 43 bard, but I am willing to start anew if necessary. What should I play that will make finding group mates easy?

If you talk about finding groups, then tanks. Everybody will tell you not to go tank, because raiding guilds do not recruit as much of them as other classes. But random groups are hurting for tanks more often than not.

If I remember correctly, a charmed enchanter pet made a wonderful tank... so long as I had a good cleric to heal me when the charm broke :)

Not a legitimate option, due to the first thing and due to the limited abilities of charmed mobs (See: SHIT FOR AGGRO)

People don't advise players to not roll tanks , they advise people to not roll warriors. Pal/Sk perfectly fine choice.

Bards are basically how you make low end groups not suck anywhere near as much.

What you really need to do to get into groups:
1) Not have shitty gear, this means don't go to rust with your 3k paladin missing half his spells and try to tank 6+ mobs with a 3k druid and no bard
2) To have social skills, seriously who wants to sit in a group for 4 hours with some ass who doesn't say anything remotely humorous.

"Don't go to rust"
Is rust a zone?

"3k paladin and 3k druid"
What does 3k mean in this context?

"social skills"
If I had those, I wouldn't be playing online games.

id guess a 3k paladin is one with only 3k health and a 3k druid is one with 3k of mana... (only guessing here) and rust is a zone, fairly nasty robot zone...

Enchanters are great for getting groups on the grind up to 65 and whatnot, as you're likely to find groups that need cc (stands true for bards as well). Once you get to 65 and get a couple hundred aa's and real gear, you might find it hard to get into really good exp groups, as cc isn't as necessary, but you can circumvent this problem by getting into a guild (also not terribly hard as an enc) and getting guild groups. Though if you play the class well and charm pretty well without getting groups/yourself killed you can still put out a good chunk of dps in groups, the main reason their not needed is they're generally just not considered great dps. That said, there are a couple high end zones where chanters or bards are an asset to have for the cc. Just don't get into aoe groups as a chanter or you'll feel totally useless and hate life :).

I have less first hand experience on bards, but generally a good bard can be comparable to an enc as far as cc goes, and they have a lot of other utility that makes them useful to have including good dps (at least high end, I don't remember where they fell on dps on the middle tiers).

As far as rerolling to a new class, maining a cleric would definitely get you groups, and if you're semi intelligent, a guild with no problem. Druid/Sham can suffice as healers, and both have much more solo ability than a cleric, though they do have a pretty decent gap while lvling where they don't get another heal for a while, which is a big pain to push past. Any straight dps class will always get you groups because every group takes at least a couple. If I were you, I'd stick with the bard/enc until 65, and decide which you like playing more, then put all your plat towards gearing that character. The only thing I should really note is while both bard and enc might have a problem farming plat while they're undergeared, a geared enchanter will still always have problems farming plat efficiently. A geared bard can farm plat with no problem. And by geared, I mean high end raid gear. Anyways, gl.

I do not intend to do much raiding so I am not sure if any guild would want me. If I joined a guild, I would raid maybe 1-3 times per month. In addition, when raiding, I would want to reserve the right to be able to log off mid raid without taking any crap for it. I have a very busy real life that is not very conductive to long gaming sessions. Also, I play for fun, and so if I stop having fun I want to log off and come back when it sounds like fun again.

That said, I would really like the ability to tag along on some raids once I'm leveled up some if for nothing else than for relic spells. I would also like to be able to log on and join some people in running around a dungeon in a small group or work on a quest for a while.

I do not consider "getting into a guild" to be a goal. If I am ever in a guild, it is going to be because they played with me some, they enjoy my presence, and they want me around more. If they expect me to "apply" to the guild and prove my "worth" by gaining x AA points then I don't want to be a part of it. I've had my "hardcore gamer" phase and passed it :)

I just want to be a class that can log on, say in occ "anyone want an XX level <class>?" and have people invite me to join assuming there are people online in that level range of course. And whatever my class is, I can perform my job competently if not expertly (unless I am attempting to 2box but that is a whole separate story).

In that case, you could go with pretty much anything. Just go with something you enjoy playing (which generally the best rule of thumb to follow anyways). As far as the whole guild thing goes, I know a few casual guilds, but none quite that casual. I'm sure they exist though.

I think I will stick with my enchanter and bard then. I am really looking forward to Shapeshift anyways. Thank you everyone for your input!
