Crashing while zoning

Boxing or not boxing (though more common while boxing and reeeeallly common if I have iTunes up in the background.)

The game hangs while loading between zones forever and I'm forced to bring up the task manager and close the client. It seems to be random regarding which zonelines it happens in but it's getting pretty common.

Maybe 1/5 zones while not boxing and 1/3 while boxing it'll occur.

Anything I can do? I don't think this is just happening to me.

This used to happen to my cousin all the time. It was so bad that I eventually refused to SoD with him at his house because it's super annoying. In the beginning, I gave him a copy of my EQ (from live) folder and that had cut back on his crashes. We have guessed that it's his slow internet (he lives in the middle of nowhere). If we each were 2-boxing, someone was guaranteed to crash. It wouldn't happen on any other games though. Him and I would each 3-box on EQ Live and had no issues on going LD/Crashes, etc. But as of a week or two ago, he hasn't been crashing at all. Maybe his internet got fixed or something. Sucks to hear you are having a similiar issue.

I have has a similar issue zoning lately.. also I get hangs on log in between char select and entering the game sometimes also. Getting rather annoying.

Since all time it is faster and more reliable for me to Alt-F4 and reload sod every time I zone. Open applications don't really have an effect. I think its just The Game.

Having the same issue now!
I can play the game as long as i don't zone. When I do, the game crashes to login. So when I log, I get an error message that the login server can't be found. I run the Sod wiki in the back ground and It locks out, after a couple of minutes, with a can't connect server error. This all just started happening a week or so ago. I run a laptop at the same time and it has no issues whatsoever.

I have shutoff anti-virus. deleted and re-loaded both eq and SoD and even swapped out the comm board. Still no luck as the game crashes every time I zone or Die. In fact this forum just crashed for taking too long to type this.

Any other suggestions (as I have tried the ones here on the forum) would be appreciated.

I had the issue for well the first week I played. I tried all of the above as well. I have lightening fast internet speed so I dont believe that is the issue. Last 3 days I have tried Zoning in each character apart from each other- (1 at a time)give a 30 sec window before you throw next box in.

No issues after that.
Also dont load your boxes up at same time let 1 account fully get into game before you even double click on your exe file for the next.

That seems to cause me more issues once game is going .

Good luck.

do you use windows 7? I do. zoning is impossible. if you know a fix I'll repay you in positive forum rep.

My laptop in win7, I have zero issues boxing using it. I did get an intermittent issue where one of the clients would lock up on zoning. I turned off the bind to processor, and it seems to have fixxed itself. That may be your problem also, if you have that enabled.

Of all the things...It seems so far to have been the modem. I turned it off for a while and then back on, so far no crashes. Did I mention how much I like computers!?

I used to suffer with this problem for the past few years in SoD, but I eventually found a solution that worked for me. When you first install the game, it gives a warning to turn off any Anti Virus programs you might have running. I always used to ignore the warning because I figured if there was a problem, it would give an error message or something.

Anyway, that was the problem that caused me to crash while zoning. I uninstalled the game, and turned off my Anti Virus, then reinstalled, and never had the problem again. Just make sure you backup your character files if you want to save your UI layouts.

Had no issues with the game, changed nothing computer wise. Recently Ive been experiencing these as well, Specfically after this recent afternoon patch thing. Not sure what changed.

Yeah, my issues are back on my laptop, also. So much for that fix. Seems I can't make it past zonign twice with both boxes w/o one locking up on me. Not certain if it will do it on my xp desktop or not though.

If my connection was weak, I'd often get disconnected 2-box zoning. I've also found it helps to actively tab between the 2 zoning boxes as they zone, or leave some time between zoning them so one makes it before the other. If both go at once, it is very likely that one or both won't make it in my experience.

It used to be that I would very rarely lose one while zoning both at once (usually due to af being on), now it is pretty constant. The connection was fine before, it seems more likely to be some code change. Just like the sudden issue with zones randomly crashing. It started happening around the same time too, if I recall right.

I never had problems with this (but always did if I was uploading or streaming video). I wouldn't rule out something having changed whether it was in the code or merely an increase in the hardened plaque which constricts the arteries of the internet.

I am including this picture of my internet 1 year ago (left) and today (right):
