Crashing theory with dual boxes

After being in a group with someone that was crashing every so often in the group I think I found a way to fix...at least it worked for him...crashing. If you are using a UI switch it to the default UI and see if you crash. This is just a theory so it needs a bit more testing, but if it worked for him it may work for others.

Edit: As I said its only a theory. But also the cause my be overheating. Get the EQplaynice file in the file section and see if that helps.

If you play with two characters on the same account, crashing is almost bound to happen more frequently than not.

Thought there may be a fix to work. So kind of bounce ideas of what works or what doesn't to try to fix it.

You'll still crash when zoning if you use the default UI if both characters are on the same account. You can go to the IRC channel and ask one of the devs (not Wiz) to switch a character to a second account. That's what I did, and it works wonders.

You can play 2 on the same account without crashing problems, the trick is not to zone at the same time. That's the only issue I've come across in 20 levels running default or custom ui's. In any case crashing out as you evac isn't so bad since you still actually zone. Maybe the UI is a problem for 2 actual boxes but this works if you run 2 instances of eq on the same pc http://www.shardsofdalaya.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3930&highlight=miami+celtic with no crashing problems of any kind.

But why crash when evacing when you don't need to? Or when you get a nasty pull near the zone in and want to zone, or when you just want to get through quicker? There's no real reason not to use two different accounts =)

I agree, and will do the transfer soon. I just started up another instance to see if my pc could run 2 games at one time without problems before I wasted everyones time making a 2nd account for no reason.

From my experience, it's very, very easy to run two instances. Your processor is the main choke for EQ once you have enough RAM to load the textures. 3 years ago I 4-boxed on one computer in EQLive, and the only difference between that and 2-boxing (aside from my profound confusion at times) was zone time.

hehe been there with the confusion at times ..

Usually had 3 accounts online but here and there would run upto 6.
