Crashes right after login screen

I have a friend of mine who lives in austraila who wanted to start playing SoD. He waited three days to download it (stupid bandwidth cap) and got it all patched up just tonight. Unfortunatly, he has found that when he puts in his username and password at the EQ login screen, it crashes to desktop. He tried patching manually with no success either.

Crash log says this...

Code:
[Thu Dec 01 16:53:35 2005]00295:Call Stack
[Thu Dec 01 16:53:35 2005]00296:crashed doing call stack

<deathz0r> with a call stack above it
<deathz0r> starts off normal, then there's a shitload of ce's in the hex

Any ideas of where to start?

Question
Crashing to desktop after entering Station Name and Password
Answer
This can often happen if you are unable to connect to the login server due to a firewall or improperly setup network. Please make sure you have the appropriate ports, all UDP ports greater then 1023, open on your firewall if this is the case.

Firewall / Proxy Information

One other quick thing to try would be to delete the file ss.opt out of your EverQuest directory. If this file gets corrupted it could cause these symptoms as well.

This can also happen if you burn EQ files on to a CD-ROM and copy them into an EverQuest directory. This will cause the files to become Read-Only as they are saved to the hard drive. If you have Windows 9x/ME you will need to set the file attributes to archive. If you have Win2k/XP make sure that READ ONLY is UNCHECKED in the properties of the files. After changing the file attributes you will need to repatch, and then you should be able to login.

If you continyue to experience problems, you may wish to search the knowledgebase for standard crashing troubleshooting, or contact our Technical Support team.

EDIT: If he's on campus or likewise and they won't open all the ports, make sure at least UDP 5997 is open (which is the one login server uses). For other ports, please read FAQ.

I'm so glad I finally found this post! deleting ss.opt fixed my problem.
I was crashing immediately after entering my password.
