Constantly going linkdead

I just downloaded SoD and followed all the guides to set up the game, got the dual-core processor fix so the graphics run alright, yet once I connect to the server and get to character select, I go linkdead within minutes.

I have Vista 32-bit Home Premium, nVidia 9800GT, AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ (3.00 GHz), and 4 gigs of ram. My firewall is the basic included Windows Firewall, and I have a D-Link router. Here are the steps I have taken:
-Done the dual-core fix
-Made the SoD program an exception in my firewall
-Opened the various ports (login server/world server) on my firewall
-Tried playing the game with my firewall completely turned off

I have no problem connecting to other online games (e.g. Team Fortress 2, Day of Defeat) and my internet otherwise works fine. Thanks in advance for any help.

Some clarification:
Do you actually get in the game then go LD or is this when you are trying to log in after character select and are loading the zone?
Do you get any error messages? Does it boot you to character select, server select, or restart the opening splash screens?

I haven't actually gotten into the game because I have spent too long trying to customize my first character. I generally go linkdead by the time I have allocated my skillpoints and am choosing either my religion or starting town. It then briefly flashes the black "You have been disconnected" screen (I don't get any error messages aside from that) and boots me back to server select.

Don't bother trying to choose your religion or starting town. Those choices in the setup have no effect in sod, as sod's gods and towns are different.

Not sure why you're being disconnected though.

I'm no GM or anything but try clearing out your "dbg.txt" file located in the game directory, then run ur program until you disconnect. Search the end of the file and see if any error messages show up.

what was your character's name? you may have been flagged.

He couldn't possibly have been flagged before he allocated his skill points. I doubt an entry is even made into the character database until that process is completed.

Yep I run the patcher everytime to start the game. I think the one time I got far enough to type in a character name and hit next after allocating skillpoints I named my character Trindon, although it seems highly unlikely I got flagged.

When I get back from work I'll try the dbg.txt idea and post what happens.

Ok so I deleted the dbg file, ran SoD again (through the patcher), and the same disconnect happened. Here is the pertinent information from the file, I can post the rest if necessary. Hopefully this will help:

Yep I have the map pack.

Since I've done it so many times I'm finally able to finish creating a character, so I hit the next button to enter the game, and the window pops up saying "Submitting name to server approval, please wait." Then soon after that I go linkdead.

I'm guessing this has to do something with my router, but I know next to nothing about routers and wouldn't know how to go about fiddling with the settings.

Well I tried plugging the modem directly into my computer, and turning my firewall completely off, yet for some reason I am still going linkdead. At this point I literally have no idea what could be causing me to go linkdead.

Anyone have anymore ideas?

Hmm, I actually downloaded all the files off the main EQ site as part of their free month or 2 for returning members. According to the live patcher, I have all expansions updated. I hope that helps.

Okay, so you did the download, did you log in as well? IIRC (been a while since I logged into Live), first you do a bunch of patching, then you login, then you patch some more.

I don't believe it has ever been confirmed that you can patch a post-Secrets of Faydwer install to SoD. It's hard to guess where the problem might be, because you installed using a process which is not known to work at all.

I know the How To Setup Shards of Dalaya (Fresh Install) - Somewhat revised sticky says, "Titanium or higher", but I don't know of anyone who has started from a current install from live and gotten SoD working.

Hmm, so is there a way I could go about getting just the Titanium version installed on my computer? Or would I have to uninstall and buy Titanium?
