Connect at home, error 1001 at school

I'm able to connect and play at home just fine. Whenever I try to connect from school (university) with the same machine I get "Error 1001: Could not connect to the EverQuest server! Please try again shortly." Does anyone know why this may be or how it could be fixed? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have some down time during the day and it would be great to be able to play a little.

the connection is probably dropping or is filtered on the schools firewall. routing connection you can check with this.
Go to Start -> Run -> Type "cmd" # Without quotes

Then at the command prompt type;

pathping -n www.shardsofdalaya.com >> output.txt
ping www.shardsofdalaya.com >> output.txt

Open output.txt with notepad or wordpad.
Cut and paste the whole results here.

Also, if you get the error once you absolutely should
restart the client. It doesn't clear up even though the condition
which caused it may be gone.

school firewall, you would need a udp testing tool that might get you can trouble if someone noticed you. but you basically need to do an outbound udp "ping" on the ports the emu listens on. udp is a stateless protocol so it can drop and disappear and not be because the firewall dropped it.

The firewall is dropping pings which isn't an issue. But the connection is timing out on the first hop outside what looks like your schools perimeter. you also have some loss. there is a lot of stuff trying to get out and in on that network.

Also, looking at it again, the first two hops are assigned to your school by IANA. The next hop is reserved. Its possible there are
routing errors as well.

It worked a week ago, but then I reinstalled. I was using a recent version of eq which was fine until I tried to go into a zone that no longer exists on live. I uninstalled and reinstalled using my old platinum disks. That fixed the missing zone problem but introduced the error 1001. I just don't know where to go from here. At any rate, I appreciate your effort to help Boehm.

Error 1001 means you're not even connecting to our server, chances are either a firewall is blocking it, or your school is blocking it on the edge side. Probably not much you could do if your school is blocking the ports.
