The nexus is a fairly large zone, and by zoning into the central cavern, you've got a huge clipping plane to contend with. When you compare it to the load time for a zone like athicab, it's pretty amazing how much longer it takes to enter the nexus. I'm sorry I don't have any good suggestions for alternative zones, but let's use this thread to throw some out.

EDIT: but sources reveal that the cause for longer zoning could be the luclin zone vs an older-model zone. So you are at least right to notice a difference :toot:
 
Use a normally inaccessible part of athicab/pocketplane imo

What was the zonefile used for character select before it was a zonefile that put the character in a themed area?

Odd. I don't notice a difference at all.
 
i dont know how doable it would be but why not take someplace like the top of kurns tower or maybe someplace like a tiny corner of sebilis....very enclosed space.....or possible the kitty roomin someplace like freeport maybe. as i understand it this command is to take the place of succor to aid in clearing character bugs so maybe allowing a succor item for people also might aid in making this easier. seems that reloading the same zone would be simpler then zoning to another place and znoing back

you cant section off a part of a zone, it loads the whole zone, which is why we went with the nexus, its a small zone with no models aside from global. Its in place to refresh the encryption key and prevent the packet loss bug, a succor item clicky would not accomplish this, and would give classes that dont have succor a very powerful item, so no.
 
It could be that it is cavernous so most of your clipping plane has stuff to render. It would help at least a little if the clipping plane was lowered dramatically like it is done with the house zone.
 
EQ live used to use the Qeynos sewers, which was their jail. I remembered they had zoned me into a little box, dunno if that zone file is available for the devs of SoD though.

It's called character loading 1, no idea the file names.

Has 2 small sections for good/evil player selection from live; the area pictured and a lava area.

That zones used for the Eternal Well encounter now. Don't know if it's possible to load two separate instances of the zone, or any zone, to use for the refresh command.

It would be amazing if this were possible however. Luclin zones do infact take longer to load on terrible computers (read: mine)
 
possibly, just by copying the zone file and renaming it to "refresh" or something, and changing the dump spot, then just changing the refresh command to send you there instead of nexus.

Could use original tutorial file and spawn people in the well or make some lore reason for refresh and let them see the graveyard or whatever, idk.

Is this something staff is willing to do? renaming/redistributing zone files would be sweet for just this one occurrence.
Could even make the patcher actually just run a simple copy/rename command instead of having the server supply the file.

No, they aren't. And yes, it would.

Though as I said you'd need to have two separate instances of the zone available for people to log into. You obv. wouldnt want Eternal Well as your refresh zone for everyone.
