Class suggestion?

Played EQ on live server back in the golden days of old world all the way to PoP. Came back about a year ago to try progression, got annoyed that guilds ripped through all the content and unlocked everything too fast. Anyway, I'm really interested in this server. I played a troll sk back in my golden days and then rolled a bard on progression. Now I understand theres a surplus of tanks and it sounds like bards are a little different than on live (no song twisting) and limited on the amount of songs you can sing. Would I be disappointed in the bard class on this server? Are there already a lot of bards? What classes is the server lacking the most? Sorry, I know this post is all over the place. Thanks in advance. :p
 
I wouldn't say a surplus of tanks, seems to be a decent spread of classes.

Bards on the other hand... thiers certainly a surplus of them :)
 
Oh also, will I have a rough time catching up? Are there a fair amount of low level people?
 
There are a fair amount of low people and you gain exp faster here than on live, so it won't take you long to catch up.

theres still the tactical side of things, as to choose what songs you have going, but theres no more consta-switching between songs.
 
As for catching up, the only downside is that groups can be a bit sparse in the mid levels, 30s and 40s. Your best bet might be to dual client so you can be self sufficient when groups are lacking.

As for class choice, they're pretty much right, there seems to be a pretty good balance these days. DPS classes (esp. rogue and wiz) are always in high demand.

What it comes down to, though, is play a class whose style you like. Aside from bard, the general feel of most classes is pretty similar to live, while the specifics are different enough to really spice things up a bit. Just try out a class or two and have fun =P There aren't any horribly underpowered classes out there these days.

we need more NON bst trolls.
every troll i've seen is a bst.

kinda like everyother iksar you see is a monk.
but iksars are cool so whateve.
 
I hardly see any rogues, wizards, or rangers. If I were to try and recommend a duo involving those classes I'd probably recommend wiz/mage, pal/rog, or ranger/bst

Pretty much the worst duos ever.....

well youre dumb. mag/wiz is definitely a strong combo for leveling. Less so for farming names or whatever, but mag/wiz is pretty kickass.

throw up root pet, nuke/heal with mag and nuke with wizard, if the mob gets loose, don't even bother wasting mana casting a root, just hightail it until your pet sticks it back down. Your earth pet has a ton of HP, it really shouldn't die unless you get several mobs.

The only problem is that when you get into the 60s your mage pet is less awesome for tanking mobs. Enough aas/good focuses and buffs will correct this, but I got kinda fed up and started just playing my wizard after they both hit 65.
