Choppy graphics after changing graphics card and adding RAM...

Hello everybody,

Been playing for a while without problems. Yesterday, my graphics card was dying, so a friend swapped it out today and replaced it with an identical model. He also added some ram, bringing me from 512 to 768. As luck would have it, now, graphics in SoD are choppy... Not to the point of being unplayable, but to the point of being annoying, as if my comp had to work extra hard to get the game running.

Now don't laugh, it's an old comp: AMD Athlon 1100, 768 ram, graphics card is a nVidia GeForce2 MX/MX 400 64 mb. I run Windows XP Pro.

I tried cutting off about any option I could that drained memory, to no avail. So now, well, bleh.

Thanks!

Re: Choppy graphics after changing graphics card and adding RAM...[solved!]

Nope, that's not it... :( I tried swapping the sticks around too in case it was one of the motherboard slots that was faulty, but to no avail. I also re-re-repatched the video card drivers.

I think I'll call him back and try re-installing my old card. Its fan sounds like a sheep getting electrocuted, but if the game works fine with it, I'll cope with that.

ETA: Problem solved! Turns out I was trying too hard. I browsed around and saw someone suggest installing older drivers when there are performance issues with old cards. I installed some drivers from 2004 and bingo, now the game is smooth as silk. :) That'll teach me to be up to date!
