Chat Channels

It was my understanding that Cult chat couldn't be changed because of the number of channels available to us with the client we have...

Then I'm told that IRC chat used to be available in game. (was I misinformed?)

It would be incredibly nice to have those available in their own channels as well as the others opened that could be set up by individuals. I never used the channels by the other guys, but it was my understanding that it could be done somewhat like ventrillo is now, with passwords set to join by guilds or alliances etc for those of us who's preferance or pc will not allow the voice chats.

We are unable to get chat channels, that was an EQemu thing, something we have long disassociated ourselves from.

It was also a live thing wastn't it? Is it just low on a list of complicated things to be done, or high on a list of can't be dones...

Actually, we don't WANT to get chat channels working for various reasons.

Wait a sec, are you talking about the channels that used to exist where someone would make a channel and then people from any zone could type /join narmraid or something similar? I remember using these back when Commander Ragarati and Traekoth the Ancient were first being taken down (end'ish of last year). It was incredibly useful, and I would love to see them back.

That's too bad, it would be awesome to have a nostalgia channel where all the peoeple that love discussing how many aaxp their Main had before POP and how their monk twink had fungi tunic at level one and the raids in Vex Thal could all hang out togheter and leave OOC uncluttered for the rest of us.

I always thought they were extremely useful...on my server there was a class channel, a class channel within my guild, an officer chat channel, etc...

the Game-IRC chat channels were the cause of various exploits if I remember correctly.

Does this also include the normal in-game channels they used to have? Honestly, I could care less about IRC channel, but a lot of people could still benefit from the regular game only channels. :D

Not to beat a dead horse but I am think I am missing something here. I don't see how chat channels in game that are not linked to IRC would have any impact on unethical play. Right now we are having to use Ventrillo to talk. A program that not only lags some of our members, but I am sure lags the server to a certain degree. If I am missing something please let me know. I will personally still use vent, its great for fast communcation. But having the Chat channels would help out in the officer side of all guilds immensly. Right now we are either forced to group with an officer only group, which is never realistic based on classes, or I have to send each officer a tell discussing who should get loot. There is no open forum or discussion. If there is anyway to implement chat channels that would be awesome. Hell if you have to restrict it to max people of 5 in each channel if that has any bearing that would be fine. I really am just looking for a means of communication between myself & officers in my guild in a channel environment. Maybe its just easier to have implement a /officerchat for guilds so if you are tagged leader or officer you can talk there and hear it. I am not sure what the answer is but it seems like we do have options.

Thanks in advance,

Bandaen.
