So I just read through the enchanter balancing post, and I need to ask about how charm works and what exactly the intention is, so I can post in the balancing forums intelligently.
I played an enc as my sole class on live for 5-6 years, and spent a significant amount of time playing with charm there. Right now I play enc/mag and just got to 65. I didn't charm much for leveling since the animation did decent dps, and mag pet was capable of tanking.
Now that I'm 65 and the best enc pet I have is my lvl 55 one, I've been trying to charm and am finding that charmed/hasted/dual weilding mobs do less dps than my mage pet. And they have the chance to slaughter me horribly if I screw up.
So:
1) What exactly does charm do to debuff the pet that makes it do such low dps? (feels like 70% slow or something)
2) Why has charm been nerfed so badly?
I admit charm as it was on live, charm had the potential to be incredibly overpowered, however it came with a huge risk. It was rare that I could find a group willing to risk letting me haste a pet that could quad for 6k, but when I did it was a ton of fun until we wiped from it. It gave my groups a chance to do things we would otherwise be undergeared for, but at risk of many deaths trying.
3) What exactly is the point/usefulness of charm currently?
It seems to me that with the significant dps decrease from charming, that it would serve little purpose other than a new twist on temporary CC.
Thanks in advance for any info
