Character Select Screen Problems

When I get to the character select screen it shows me a human, level 0 warrior and it says "loading". The screen spins and has very odd graphical glitches. There are no buttons to hit and hitting enter does nothing. I found an older thread with the same issue but a fix was never posted so hopefully this will be easy. I'm not sure which specs are necessary. If more info is needed please let me know.

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0ghz
2 gigs of ram
ATI Mobility Radeon X1400
Windows Vista
 
I've had this happen to me a couple times, and closing out the client and repatching all seems to fix it. Not really sure the cause of this random bug is.
